Removing 20mm from floor screed, to tile

Thanks Foxhole, but I didn't explain very well.... The door is a "tilt and slide" door, which when opened moves out from the frame inside the conservatory, so needs 3 or 4 inches of clearance to slide, but the mechanism underneath the door is only 5mm above the screed. (My parents originally...

Removing 20mm from floor screed, to tile

I'm in the process of tiling my Fathers conservatory floor, but getting to the tricky bit, around the sliding door. The sliding mechanism is only 5mm above the floor screed, so I need to remove a good 1/2'' of screed under the door to get tile and adhesive under it... I'll have to put slight...

Zone 0 and 1 bathroom lights

Thanks Taylor... yes, I've mentioned to the architect that we want a horizontal section boarded in across the apex of the ceiling, so we can mount downlights without affecting the insulation. Good point about the steam, looks like IP65 in the en-suite then... Daryll.

Zone 0 and 1 bathroom lights

Sorry to resurrect a fairly old post, but I have a related question.... We're having a 2 story extension built, upper floor will be master bedroom with en-suite (shower, basin and WC). It will have a vaulted ceiling, with the dividing wall between bedroom and en-suite going full height...

Possible to double up on water heating systems??

Yep, we love ours... just push the button to start, when the light stops flashing you know its up to the preset temp, and you can step in without getting frozen or scalded... They're not cheap, especially the pumped versions, but I'd certainly have another... and probably will...

Possible to double up on water heating systems??

No problem haze... Its a fairly new boiler and cylinder... both were replaced in 2010, and I fitted the 250ltr CW tank at the same time. Isn't a HW cylinder just like another rad..?? my heating engineer reckons the boiler he fitted should have some spare capacity... i hope it does, as i...

Possible to double up on water heating systems??

Thank you haze, for your un-constructive comment. I didn't say whether we had a water meter, or not, and the thread was not about saving water, but supplying 2 showers with enough water. For your information, I didn't think it was appropriate for my daughter to drain the system, on that...

Possible to double up on water heating systems??

Evening Gents.... Currently, we have a gravity water system, with a 250litre tank in the loft, 160litre HW cylinder, heated by a Vaillant (sp?) boiler. This feeds the house with HW including an Aqualisa Digital pumped shower which, I know from experience of my daughter using it  ...

Blue/green powder on outside of copper pipe.

Thanks Gents, It sounds like its not a major problem, so i'll only re-route the pipework if/when a leak does develop. We're planning on giving this extension a facelift in the next few months, so I'll just give the pipes a gentle clean to get rid of the powder and give them another coat of...

Blue/green powder on outside of copper pipe.

Thanks Herts, I've no idea whether the pipes are protected in the concrete, but I can't see the end of anytape or protective sleeving, so I'm guessing not. Ok, something else to add to my "to do" list.... :D

Blue/green powder on outside of copper pipe.

Hi all.... I'm wondering if some of my copper pipes are getting corroded where they enter a concrete floor, and should I be thinking about re-routing the pipework? We have an extension which, i think, used to be the old outside toilet/coal shed, (1950's ex council house). This extension...

Best way to join 2 cold water tanks??

Do I detect some sarcasm there Lower..?? :) Yes, if the water is off the tank empties quickly, but as I've said, I'm asssuming that the tank also empties, albeit slower, when it is refilling from the mains.

Best way to join 2 cold water tanks??

Ok, thanks Gents for all your replies. Maybe I was worrying too much... i'll have a look in the tank when someone is in the shower and see how low the level gets. The suggestion of another ballvalve, or a bigger one, is probably the easiest thing to try before putting in another tank...

Best way to join 2 cold water tanks??

I will XR....I'm basing my assumption on the fact that we used to have a mains fed (15mm) electric shower, which was replaced with the Aqualisa Digital pumped shower. The Aqualisa definatly puts out more water than the old one used to...!! According to Aqualisa its putting out...

Best way to join 2 cold water tanks??

Thanks Gents, Yes, 3 of us have had showers, but I make sure the later people know to take a quick one..! Luckily, the water went off on a saturday, so only my daughter needed a shower before work... if it had been a weekday there would have been a clear space around me in the office...

Best way to join 2 cold water tanks??

Last year I replaced the old cold water tank in the loft with a bigger one, in anticipation of a bathroom re-fit and power shower which has now been done. I've often wondered how much water the shower uses, (as I lay in bed listening to the tank refilling above me!), but the other day the...

    lesson learned

I think a proviso to this is take a suitable vehicle..... Many, many years ago, just after we moved into our first house I decided to secondary double glaze the sash windows with acrylic sheet. Drove the 15 miles to our local Texas Homecare (now Homebase for the youngsters :D) in our Mini...

    Vaillant EcoMax Boiler Whining

Hi Huffers, sorry I never got back to this... Unfortunately it was fixed while I was at work, so I never got to ask what the exact problem was, but my wife said he mentioned "mixture".... so I'd guess it was the same as your solution.. Regards, Daryll.
