    Replacement Honda Carburettor

Thanks John. I'd actually found the original carb & had a practice stripping that. But my local Screwfix was out of carb cleaner so had to order some. In the meantime a local guy who'd been recommended got back to me & said he could collect in the afternoon, so it's gone off with him. Biggest...

    Replacement Honda Carburettor

I have a 2003 Honda Izy with I think the GCV135 engine. Despite all the love for the Izy, mine seems to have been a Friday Afternoon Special & has tormented me for most of the last 20 years. It's currently in its usual failure to start state & I'm about to attempt to strip the carb & clean it. I...

    Honeywell V4073A Third Party Heads?

Can anyone recommend one given the high price of the genuine Honeywell, or is this a case of you only get what you pay for?

Cost to Change Indirect Oil Boiler to Combi?

Lengths of string at the ready lads! I have a Warmflow 70-90,000 BTU boiler with a Riello burner feeding an indirect hot water tank & eight rads in a '70s three bed semi. Boiler is coming up to 20 years old so just wondering if it would make sense to consider swapping it out for a combi? No...

    Leaking Isolation Valve

Because I have anti-Midas syndrome. Everything I touch (like this) turns to ****!

    Leaking Isolation Valve

One of these days a five minute job won't turn into an alldayer. Although after 50 years of Sod's Law, time's running out. :( Just stripped a bathroom basin tap down to reseat. All good until I turn the isolator back on & water is leaking past the screwdriver slot. Doesn't leak in the off...

Can't Get Seal to Cistern Fill Valve

If the issue is with the plastic shaft then that will still be connected to inside of the extension. If the issue is with the feed connector then that will be connected to the tail of the extension. Hence both of the original contact points would still be in play. I probably should have said...

Can't Get Seal to Cistern Fill Valve

I've had the valve out to inspect the mating surface & the backnut came off smoothly, so definitely no cross-threading. Unless the brass nut is cross-threaded, which seems unlikely against a plastic shank. No debris present. Can actually see the water pushing up past the thread, that's just...

Can't Get Seal to Cistern Fill Valve

This is doing my head in. Had a slight leak from the feed to the Fluidmaster fill valve. So just as i did around 8 years ago, popped it open & the fibre washer was shot. Replaced it & re-assembled but it won't seal. Pulled it apart & replaced the washer with an O-ring & that won't seal either...

Any Smart Meter Installers in the House?

As I said in the OP, he's just carried out that threat when Bulb couldn't/wouldn't resolve it. It's beginning to look more like the ISP analogy where suppliers would rather you just leave than put any effort or money into solving the problem. I think they pretty much are now. I had mine...

Any Smart Meter Installers in the House?

Trying to assist someone who has had dual-fuel meters (SMETS2) installed by Bulb but the gas meter appears to have failed to initiate comms, so remains dumb. Bulb were referring to a supposed software upgrade that never materialised. He's switched to EDF & they appear unwilling/unable to sort it...

    Euro Cylinder Issue

Interesting. I've never experienced it before in any of the Euro cylinders I've had. I've spun the cylinder around when refitting it to see if it helps. Meanwhile I must remember to keep a back door key with me in case it fails completely!

    Euro Cylinder Issue

I have a composite front door with a Euro cylinder lock & pad handle. So when unlocking, the first turn of the key unlocks & then opens the latch. Very occasionally the key turns continually in the cylinder. Is this likely to be the Euro cylinder or the lock mechanism? I've removed the...

    Verge Repair Help Please

Thanks. What should I expect that to cost on a bungalow? Norfolk/Suffolk border if areas vary hugely.

    Verge Repair Help Please

Need some advice on a verge repair please. As per the pic, the board (undercloak?) has dropped & there's a crack through the mortar/cement. This has resulted in a substantial leak. The rest of the verge seems sound so looking for some guidance of what a proper repair would entail, before trying...

    New Honeywell 3-Way Valve Leaking

For what it's worth it was a faulty plate. Replacement fitted & all good.

    New Honeywell 3-Way Valve Leaking

Yes, new ball & o-ring but the ball & shaft sits inside the o-ring. So if that was damaged or unseated, the leak would be between the plates. This is actually flowing out of the plate where the motor shaft exits.

    New Honeywell 3-Way Valve Leaking

I've just replaced the ball valve plate on my Honeywell 3-way & the shaft is leaking. Any ideas other than a faulty plate?

Alternative Materials for Shed Roof, Not Shed Roof Covering!

I'm wondering why in the 21st century the apparently preferred method of roofing a shed is still heavy wood based sheets, that have to be continually recovered in felt or other coverings to try to stave off the inevitable ingress of water. Anyone used more modern, long-life materials instead?

Things That Go Bang in the Night!

Will do but as with all things intermittent, it may not be conclusive. Socket appears in good condition but when I get chance, I'll open up & check connections are tight. I'm beginning to wonder if the source of the bang was one of our furry friends having a nibble of the cable? Maybe when I...
