    Old garden wall

Thanks for the responses guys. Proper coping stones look great on a brick wall but this is an old stone wall. I think new coping stones would look out of place against the old stone wall. Any comments on my queries? AndyS

    Old garden wall

Hi guys after some advice please. I have an old garden wall which has been left exposed the elements for a few years allowing moisture to penetrate and weeds to grow. I’m currently relaying the top course of stone with the aim of laying slabs on top to seal it. The wall about 375mm wide. A few...

    Painting steelies

Thanks for the advice, have you used the Halfords etch primer? Struggling to find another locally and need it for tomorrow once the wheels are blasted.

    Painting steelies

Hi guys I’ve just picked up 4 steelies from the scrappy and dropped them off for shot blasting. I’m then going to hand paint them. I’ve been advised to wash them down with cheap thinners prior to priming and painting. Question is can I use any wood/metal primer or does it need a special primer?

    Dishwasher cold inlet valve

Final update, it was of course threaded and it was my stupidity trying to undo it thinking that the red collar was part of the elbow when it is of course part of the hose. Many thanks for the helpful advice guys and apologies for being dumb.

    Dishwasher cold inlet valve

After trying to loosen with a pair of Stillsons it’s still not budging. I’m now leaning toward it being a push fit as Alec_t suggests (it certainly doesn’t look like a thread where they meet). I’ve tried pulling the red bit to the left but no movement. Would water pressure be holding it closed...

    Dishwasher cold inlet valve

Defo anti clockwise and defo won’t budge ‍♂️ Sure something will give and, as it’s bust anyway, nothing to lose with more pressure.

    Dishwasher cold inlet valve

Good morning guys looking for some assistance please. Dishwasher is throwing an i30 error indicating it’s flooded. Trying to remove the dishwasher but struggling to undo the cold water inlet. Please see attached photos. I am unable to unscrew the red plastic female portion from the stop valve...

    New fence & gate project

Good morning guys after some advice as usual. I intend putting up a 6 foot garden fence and gate at the end of the driveway to the house. The main reason is to ensure a secure place to leave our new puppy (German Wire Haired Pointer) who appears able to escape from anywhere. The construction...

    Power Supplies for Hoover.

Many thanks guys, great inputs. I’ve repaired the “nicked” cable on the OEMs charger. Bearing in mind it is constantly connected I’d rather be on the safe side.

    Power Supplies for Hoover.

Evening guys could do with some advice please. We have just replaced our Shark cordless Hoover with a Levolt one. The charger for the Shark is routed to the rear of a cabinet and is a pain to replace. Added to which our new puppy has managed to “nick” the cable of the new charger with his sharp...

    2 coats within 2to 4 hours?

Many thanks for the responses guys, it hadn’t occurred to me to ask their technical department for advice. I’ll drop them a message. Thanks again.

    2 coats within 2to 4 hours?

Morning all I would appreciate some advice. Having recently retired I’m busying myself with painting the cast iron gutters, wooden soffits & barge boards and the stone reveals around the windows. The 3 Johnstones paints all say to apply a 2nd coat within 2-4 hours, which I’ve done. This is...

    Shed walls leaking

Ohhh, do you think that could be the cause of the problem? I put it on as I was concerned that the rain run-off may be blowing under the wall onto the flooring. Thanks for the comment.

    Shed walls leaking

Many thanks for the response. I only sealed the joints a few days ago. We had more heavy rain last night and the stain on the floor appears larger. However, I guess this could be coincidental and it is the moisture that had gathered at the bottom of the joint seeping through. I’ll leave it for...

    Shed walls leaking

Good morning guys this seems to be a relatively common problem. We bought a shed off the internet (Dunster House) had it delivered and I’ve assembled it on a solid base of mot and flags. Since assembling it we have had consistent problems with driven rain penetration, being in the North West we...

Shed base (for wooden posts) (Ed.)

Many thanks for the considered responses guys. TBH I had thought that wrapping the posts in Vizqueen would stop/delay the rotting process but it appears that the community does not share that view. Perhaps doing this would actually lock more moisture in thereby doing more harm than good. I...

Shed base (for wooden posts) (Ed.)

Hi guys sorry for starting yet another thread on shed bases but I guess we all have our own problems to overcome. I’m erecting a 10’x8’ shed in between 2 large trees at the bottom of the garden. This has always been a “dead” area due to the tree shading and roots. To overcome the root problem...

    Combi Boiler Pressure

Guys as you suggested the expansion vessel was at fault. Simple job (for a professional!) to relieve the water pressure, top up air pressure and repressurise the water side. System now sitting at 0.8 rising to 1 when operating. Many thanks for all the information.
