    EvoHome with Underfloor Electric Heating

I'm getting a small utility room fitted with underfloor heating and have chosen the following set to install: http://www.theunderfloorheatingstore.com/electric-underfloor-heating/prowarm/prowarm-electric-underfloor-heating-150w-mat-kit I've got the HoneyWell EvoHome system and want the...

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

It has been some time I know, but I was finally able to investigate the electrics on the garage side. It would appear to me that the armoured cabling is NOT earthed there either, the armoured cable terminates in the garage via a small CU type box with two inserted fuses (one for the light...

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

Interesting, so does this suggest that the armour should be earthed at both sides, in the house and in the garage?

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

Ah sorry, you initially mentioned on the house side, not the garage. I am yet to thoroughly inspect the garage end and will do so hopefully this weekend and provide pictures. I won't action or 'live' anything until I've run it by you guys.

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

Hi Bernard, I appreciate your help, but we've already discussed this in the replies previous to yours, please review the thread.

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

Hi Bernard, as mentioned above the armoured element was cut back to the point just before the cabling goes through the house wall, but it is definitely armoured. There are no other services in the garage, just electric.

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

I'll get a photo of the unit that is currently installed into the garage to show you what's there and if its OTT or still usable. Thanks again.

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

Ah sorry, yes the house is RCD protected at the main consumer unit, but the garage seems to have it's own within the mini-CU too, I'll deal with that side after I've solved the element inside the house - none of it will be 'powered' until you've confirmed that visually/in theory it is setup...

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

And this is precisely why I have posted here, to ensure that it's done right, appreciate you pointing it out - unfortunately the way in which the cable enters the house, the armour has been stripped back to the wall line and there cannot be easily earthed at that end, however the other end of...

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

I haven't connected the other end at this time (the garage end), its just terminated safely for the time being and I'll photograph that end to post here before connecting anything up or putting a fuse into the FCU. The colours are Red, Yellow and Blue, it hasn't faded, its just a poor photo :)

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

Fair enough, appreciate the advice - out of curiosity, why is this armoured cable using those colours? The regs have never stated that they're formal colours right?

    Indoor FCU for outdoor electrics

My house had an FCU from the downstairs ring which connected to a spur out into the garden to provide electrics to the garage through armoured cable, however I wasn't happy with the way in which it was connected to the garage as the cable ran through the garden above ground and amongst a flower...

    Lawn Edging

I just had a mow strip installed around my garden consisting of basic driving pavers positioned around the garden level with the soil so that when mown, it creates a nice finish. Simple bed of cement around the garden, then sit the pavers into it - job done!

New Forum Help New look and feel!

Hi all, Having just returned after a long break away from these forums, I was pretty confused to find this new layout, look and feel. I manage Forums myself and know how hard it can be to please everyone, but this is a giant leap away from the old forums which were efficient, ergonomic and easy...

    Garden Mini-Decking Design

Hi all, I am planning a small decking project in the garden, the garden slopes downward and therefore one end will be fairly shallow whilst the other will be raised around a foot or so. I am attaching one end to an existing solid brick wall to which I'll use joist hangers (at the bottom of the...

    Laying Lawn Edger Blocks

Thanks Lecco, just after posting this, I came to the same conclusion :) What mix ratio would you use? The depth under the paving will be a few inches, not particularly substantial but then these aren't structural or required to be weight bearing. Also, in terms of grouting inbetween, what...

    Laying Lawn Edger Blocks

Hi all, I want to edge my lawn by laying some paving blocks end to end - I am wondering if I could do this by digging a narrow trench for the width of the blocks but deeper than required, then fill with post-crete and potentially add a little sand into the mix to stiffen it up?

    Grass drainage/muddy lawn

I have heard that adding sand to your lawn can help with dampness/boggy ground - also core drilling deep small-bore holes into your lawn for increasing drainage below potentially compacted mid-levels.
