We are building a side return kitchen extension. The building Inspector has passed the work done so far, up to dpc. I need to build up a raised patio area up to 40 cms 5m x 3m to finished level surrounded with a single brick wall. What I have read is that to back fill extra soil from elsewhere...

Hi oldbotnotdead, thanks a lot for your detailed reply. I was thinking if should I or should not run ducting under the extension. I will now, imagine having to kango the floor of a new kitchen extension, you're right.

Laying Electrics and water pipe for outbuilding

Great thanks Conny, so you pull a cord together with the 1st cable and leave it in, I was genuinely wondering how it was done. Easy when you know! Any special kind of cord? Nylon fishing line?

Laying Electrics and water pipe for outbuilding

You'd wrap the mdpe pipe in insulation at 800mm? Ok better safe than sorry. I thought about running CH to the outbuilding but declined in the end. Thanks Wayners.

I'm about to bury armoured cable, armoured ethernet cable and mdpe water pipe running from my house then under a kitchen extension, under patio and lawn to an outbuilding, total distance about 20m. The posts I've read here only seem to consider the electric cable but not the water pipe together...

    Footings and Water Table Problem.

Thanks, yes he said sand and cement! Concrete dry lean does sound better though! Yes 1st scrape the muck and any soil that may have fallen in then lay the dry lean mix. What sand/cement or concrete ratio should the mix be? Thanks

    Footings and Water Table Problem.

I've dug a footing 1m deep from ground level for a kitchen extension but hit the water table. Overnight the bottom of the footing has about 5-8cm of surface water coming through! If I remove this water one day the following day water has returned. I spoke to the building inspector today and he...

How to install Water and Electric utilities for an Out House.

Thanks for the reply Blub. Maybe I was wrong calling the building an outhouse but I intend installing electric heating and water so I feel 4mm swa is too low, I was thinking 10 - 16mm, I might install an electric hob later also. I'm building a 5m x 5m brick studio and I wont be using gas. As for...
