    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Thankyou for all your ideas and suggestions - I will pass them onto our electrician, who is experienced and time served. Hopefully, he can then clarify the situation better than I ever could (not being at all electrically-minded I've probably got a few details mixed up!). So thanks all for...

Neighbours errecting a 12-14 toy hut

Didn't mean to mislead, but I thought there was a difference between temporary and permanent structures, which is why people often do not need planning permission for summerhouses, home offices in the garden etc...

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

The N-E resistance test is coming out low, from what I understand, across several circuits, although the kitchen and garage are fine. Also, when you use a Fluke meter, do you have to keep your finger on the button for a correct reading? It has been mentioned that perhaps the tester is getting...

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Oh dear!! What happens if it's tested on 1000v? Can it ruin the wires? Am now worried about that too! What result figures should insulation resistance test show on meter? What's the lowest that is acceptable to pass?

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Yes, that's a good idea. Thanks for all your ideas. I will try and get more precise information...

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

I don't have results sheet yet, but I will certainly ask them why they were testing at such a high figure if it wasn't necessary.

Neighbours errecting a 12-14 toy hut

Maximum boundary permitted between neighbours is 2 metres high, but as this is on their land and probably won't be classed as permanent structure, you may have little comeback. However, you could argue the structure blocks out your light etc - definitely worth speaking to council about what a...

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Thanks for that idea, but they've checked for bunching.

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Yes, they were testing at both 500v and 1000v for insulation resistance. Maybe because they were getting odd results, they tested at higher figure to see what happened.

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Thanks for your reassurance that it can't be coming from the alarm. I don't know what they've written on the test sheet. For some reason the problem is showing on both lighting and socket circuits. Individual stretches of wire are testing fine, but when put back together and tested as a...

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

I am really sorry, I do not know all the technical stuff (just a useless girl!!). They were testing two wires at a time at 1000 volts for resistance on a Fluke meter at one point. The earth around the house has been tested separately and is fine, so they don't think it's a supplier issue...

    ODD ELECTRIC RESULTS ON REWIRE

Please help. Having just completed a full rewire on a 1970s bungalow, it has weird results on the final tests. I am not very technical, but our electrician mate (long time served) who's done the rewire - and his sparky pals - are all at a frustrated loss. Basically, although individual...
