    Well? under foundations

Thanks for the replies. The building inspector came out and has agreed we can fill it in and put a lintel over it resting on pads etiher side. Unfortunately one of these will be on the neighbours side, and wedged in a 2 foot space between the well and a drain. Oh well, I can see a last...

    Well? under foundations

Hello, We're about to build an extension to the rear of our property. On breaking up the multi-layered concrete out back I came across the following (see images). I've cleared it out to 5ft deep but don't really want to stand in it more until I know the depth. A metal pole...

resolved: MCB on but no power

Good question. Thinking back I'm not sure they ever sent it through, will have to dig out paperwork from that time (we had a lot going on with electrics/new boiler/plastering etc etc.)

resolved: MCB on but no power

The left hand incomer is 100mA time delayed. This replaced a messy old fusebox and took them two days to figure out the house wiring. As mentioned previously, the 3 sockets in the room above the garage all run from different MCBs. Is there anything I should be concerned about? We're...

resolved: MCB on but no power

I will replace them, I just didn't want to hike back to screwfix once I'd removed the busbar. Will pop in on my way home tomorrow. It's successfully coped with a dishwasher running. Still wondering if people think this has been unsafe for the last 4 years?

resolved: MCB on but no power

Thanks to all those who responded, I think it's all resolved now. (fingers crossed.) I replaced the RCD, had to clean up the busbar but all looks good now. Spot on. Have a look at these images: Does this means we've had an unsafe installation for 4 years? Keeping a close eye...

Hmm, it might be worth getting someone in to do this bit then. Is this likely to be the only problem? Or is it a result of a problem elsewhere? Do RCD's 'fail' often or is this a rarity?

I'm not certain no. Everything appears very tight. I assume if I hit the left hand RCD that will remove power to the right hand one so I can remove it? (there isn't any other switch to turn off all electric from what I can see....and certainly want to be sure!)

resolved: MCB on but no power

Latest: I put a kettle on whilst the power was still on. Came back and watched the RCD crackle and occaisionally spark. It then really started spitting out sparks so I hit the reset button. I assume from this it's a faulty RCD? Or could there be other problems elsewhere causing this...

resolved: MCB on but no power

Apologies, it is 80A, not quite with it at the moment (11 week old baby keeping us busy!) There are no signs of heat damage, copper looks clean. As I type, power been on for 15 minutes. Two photos at: //www.diynot.com/network/rp9/albums/6208 , it's the right hand side (the taped...

resolved: MCB on but no power

Just an update. I've done a continuity check and Live and Earth are all ok. Neutral however wasn't. I loosened, reset and tightened the bottom of the RCD. Voila, the power was back on......for about 10 minutes (I boiled a kettle ok whilst it was on.) It then went off. Turning it back on I...
