Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

Thanks for the heads up oldbutnotdead, at least I feel like I know a little bit more now! Leaving it to the professionals seems like the best idea otherwise I think I’d be in danger of having to move this thread to the DIY disasters forum!

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

Thanks for the replies, point taken on the estimating from a phone pic and risk from supplying own parts. I could return the pump to the store and ask the pro to supply and fit it all - if I went that route are they any pumps and 3 port valves to avoid in terms of reliability? Or conversely any...

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

Sorry, my last post should have read "How much would I be looking at roughly for a plumber to fit the 3 port and water pump and new pipe work" I'd be supplying the water pump and 3 port Cheers

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

Thanks all for the replies and help. Assuming I buy the 3 port myself (as I did the water pump) how much would I be looking at roughly for fitting and new pipe work (based outside of London)

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

You're probably correct with the 3 port as i seem to recall having problems with it in the past - its sounding more and more like im going to have to bite the bullet and arrange for a professional as im assuming that a new 3 port wouldnt be the same dimensions as the old one which would mean...

hi lightning, the fuss is that i've never done any plumbing before so things that may seem obvious to others just aren't to me. Even reading up and looking at tutorials online it doesnt always give you the full details - as an example, when i cut the pipe will there be water in it? will i...

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

The house was built in 1975 so guessing it’s all the original build - what you’ve said about the 3 port, is it something I should be looking to replace at the same time?

MrBenchmark, I’m going out on a limb here, but something in your reply leads me to think you’re not being complimentary about this setup I’ve inherited???

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

What I’m wondering is whether it would be easier to fit a longer pipe by unscrewing the part where the two bits of tape are rather than cutting into the pipe by the top valve and fitting the joint? Realise I would have to fit the gate valve to the new longer pipe but would it be the better...

Mind the gap - Grundfos UPS3 is shorter than old pump

Hi, A daft question perhaps but as someone who has no plumbing skills I'm turning to you lovely people (again) for some advice. My old Grundfos domestic water pump that lives in the airing cupboard gave up the ghost a couple of days ago, leaking due to being corroded around the pump valves...

New boiler help requested, valiant pro or 831/837 for 9 rads

Appreciate the quick reply Sooey, thanks When you say "The ecotec pro is just an ecotec plus with a few less frills" is that true in terms of reliability also? The older posts I saw seemed to indicate that the Pro 28 suffered from a few more breakdowns than the Plus 831, yet looking...

Flat Roof Replacement - BETAELAST - ever heard of it ?

not really at this stage as i've been quoted 2000-3500 for the pitched roof alone and obviously the garage and kitchen extension would still need refelting so it takes it way out of my price range at the moment. i did say to him that i'd considered having a pitch roof and he said if that was...
