hi , can you just dot and dab straight onto bricks and low suction blockwork ? i have seen plasterers do it but looking online its a mixed bag of ideas ? also why are the boards not put direct on the floor ? is it for rising damp ? cheers

hi, walls are just built, so no moss etc on em, no splits or cracks, 50mm full fill cavity with knauf waterproof insulation, dpc at start of first block so i will leave a small gap from top of dpc to start of render. wall is only 2.1 m high by 3 m so not big hope thats enough info ? also do i...

hi all, i want to render an external concrete block wall i have built, what mix do i use ? its a cavity wall so do i need to add a waterproofer ? how long between coats ? also i was wondering if i used a 5;1 mix for the blockwork would a stronger mix of render have any effect on the blocks in...

    shock risk

ok makes sense, anything connected to the earth ie a metal pole would become live under the fault , and if that was touched while stood on the ground a different potential could exsist so shock risk would be higher ?

    shock risk

could someone clarify this for me - a live 230v main feeder cable becomes faulty and becomes in contact with the ground which im stood on, this cable is straight from the supply transformer and fault occurs before main cut out. would i recieve a shock due to my feet been apart creating a p.d ...

    electric shock voltage levels

if they meet the zs tabes they ill clear the fault but my query is for thesplit second it takes to clear the fault what voltage is present on the mettle case ?

    electric shock voltage levels

could anyone explain the potential divder earth part, which means half supply voltage is shown at the fault ? in either case of 230 or 115 volts at the fault is that saying i would recieve a shock at one of the two voltages but if lots of fault currunt was to flow i would be ok as the shock...

    electric shock voltage levels

so if the resistance is unequal it could be higher or lower value of voltage ? also how does the touch voltage 50 v max work if i touched the kettle and say a metel tap at time of fault ? thanks for the anawers

    electric shock voltage levels

if a 230v live touches a metal kettle case thats earthed, does the metal go to 230v until its cleared by the fuse etc ? or does it clear that fast it wont rise to 230 potential ? cheers

    dpc/dpm

from posts i have read i would say thin mortar smear then dpm at least half way over the top of the brick, then dpc directly on top, then mortar bed for next brick course, also regarding dpm higher than dpc i spoke to a builder today and he said its no issue its just like a tray in effect ...

    possible damp issue

is it ok to have a dpm one brick course above dpc level so internal floor level can be higher ? these are single brick walls for a conservatorie , doing this would mean new floor level would be slightly higher than existing house dpc level is that ok to do ? thanks

    dpc and floor levels

my house is quite high off the ground, if i finish my cony floor at existing dpc level it is a 2 course plus door frame rise to get into kitchen , i could lower door down but it still means the cony frame pannels will be below my existing window tops which wont look right, so if i take it all up...
