Replacing an oven unit - fusing

Yes, I think I would; but having the kitchen fitted he wants/needs everything clear, cut and sorted "corectly". I think (was thinking) the main issue is the "fused by" rating specified by the oven manufacture. Last night I did manage to at least find someone selling NB20s and NB15s (whether...

Replacing an oven unit - fusing

We're having removed our old 1½ ovens (combined unit, wired to a 'cooker' point via a separate isolator switch fed from a dedicated circuit with a 30A MCB, RCD protected). To be replaced by two units, a full oven and a combined oven/microwave. The main oven specifications states (all of...

    Consumer unit, is this normal?

Ah yes, just the on/off flags (last picture shows better) - thrown (sorry) by the newer style mix.

How many electricians does it take to change a light bulb?

It may not beat six to repair, but I know here it took four to change every working lamp that we could see by for some new LED s**t that we can't see with (nearly everyone has added external lighting to their homes now). One they left permanently on. It took weeks for them (2-men) to come...

    Consumer unit, is this normal?

Are those two new circuits RCBO on RCD feeds ? - I can't be sure (a front on photo would have helped a bit), without opening up only switching off those RCDs will prove if power goes off those new circuits. That alone is enough for any OCD!

    What is this?

Google may have the answer, https://www.noisesolutions.co.uk/, even the phone number looks about right. The question is; are the council monitoring you or is your road is up for a 'noise' camera for the new vehicle noise asbos.

does metal stud affect consumer unit?

The problem with that is; the cables were run safely (visible on the surface), now you are hiding them. Imagine in n number of years all that lot covered over, would you expect a cable just there where you want to drill a hole ? How does that CU get replaced (for one that is ½" wider, one 3"...

    Electrical safety

Just another promotional film with lots of nice words in it. Many colleges do it. It isn't necessarily real life but that won't stop them. Now I've not attended the 'using a circular saw course' but the guy afterwards, slicing the T&E, is more likely to need his spare finger set.

    HDMI audio extraction boxes

Update: A good try but I'm almost back to square one. Lindy agreed this is what I need (nothing else at present does arc passthrough) but they stopped the 38097 a while back, they checked their stock & main outlets - none to be had. Other online retailers have odd listings, but out of stock...

    BT line tester

I must have lost the plot then - sometime after the 01 to 071/081 changes; because after that was 0171/0181 (leaving the 3+4 format intact); which went to 0207/0208 (and again 3+4). I've missed it going 020 (4+4) somewhere. - I've not been in that there London few a few decades (well, the odd...

    HDMI audio extraction boxes

Does anyone know of these boxes that have HDMI passthrough (as well). Do they exist at all ? I'm looking for a box to extract the audio streams (actually two at the same time, can be any type) whilst keeping use of the HDMI ARC signal that is currently being used to feed a Sony soundbar system...

    BT line tester

Err, I believe 0203 is actually a correct London code. It is the not so new overflow from 0207 & 0208 (inner & outer iirc). Director (ex-) exchanges still have 3-digit grouping and 4-digit sub's numbering.

Modify an external pir sensor / gate alarm

Yes, alarm probably better. Only that the PIR is likely to be NO (and close to operate a light/alarm/whatever). But if it is indeed NC, then it will work. Only niggle will be the physical alignment - and having sufficient adjustment (the hardest being the face to face seperation distance)...

What smoke alarms are we fitting

Is it your flat ? For a smallish place you could do far worse than battery operated units positioned in the ideal/correct place (rather than where is convenient to cable). You can hear them a fair way apart (no need to link them) and the PP3s last a year (mine usually last far longer, but I do...

    Straw filled stud wall, fixing!?

Use a dry lined backbox ? You'll have to dig more staw out to get the tabs to turn nicely but doable. How you cable it is a different matter.

    160Ω resistor included with speaker

Well yes, but by a large margin (1/11th) of the available drive voltage. I wonder if they'd intended 16Ω (that would be a nice half level). Anyway, seems as random as I thought. An interesting non-standard (well it is a 5% range) so I'd better file it separate from my bulk resistors.
