    Wood Shed Roof Felting

Hi All I am nearly finished building a woodshed to season logs in. I have sunk 8 posts roughly 1.2 meters apart a foot or so deep in the ground and postcreted them in. I have put 4 beams on top of the posts to connect the front and back poles which slope at about 15 degrees I have put...

Cold Top Half of Radiator (have bled)

Thanks. What/where are the valves that I need to turn off? what is the "carp" that I need to dislodge? Then I put the same bleed screw back in as it was? Thanks Andy

Cold Top Half of Radiator (have bled)

Hey guys. Sorry for the delay. I tried bleeding it with the Rayburn on and also when it is all cold. Still got this top maybe 1/3 of the radiator not getting hot. When I open the bleed valve no air is coming out. How do I do the pin pokey thing without breaking everything? Thanks!

    House Plans

After 3 months of moving in I am still waiting for my solicitor to send me all the docs related to the purchase. I guess they may well be in there.Failing that I shall try the council. Thanks guys.

    Multiple Fuse Boxes

Ah genius. It does work when I try it at night time! The house used to have storage heaters but a few years ago the owners removed them and put in a Rayburn with a back boiler which powers the radiators in the upstairs bedrooms. We have therefore moved from an economy 7 tariff to a normal...

    Random Wiring and Switches

Thanks. I'll get some quotes for that in the next week or so. As for the switch, no there aren't any unattended plug sockets which would be affected by that switch, although I will have another look just in case. Thanks

    Random Wiring and Switches

Thanks Riveralt. I guessed I might need to...any rough rough estimates on the kind of dollar we're talking, just that my money is disappearing so fast at the moment!

    Random Wiring and Switches

I've posted another question about fuse boxes but thought it best to ask this separately as it is a distinct issue.. I have a random light switch which doesn't switch anything on. Also I have a fair few wires around (going to a defunct burglar alarm box outside the house etc). Would I be...

    Multiple Fuse Boxes

I have moved into an old house (1750s) which has an extension on it as well, comprising a bedroom and a dining room. By the front door there are two big fuse boxes, each with their own 'test' breaker buttons and upstairs there is another one. One of the ones downstairs appears to do nothing...

    House Plans

I have bought a house and wanted to investigate exactly what was done on an extension about 6 years ago with regard to things like drainage etc. How would I go about viewing documentation/plans etc on this work? Thanks in advance Andy

Cold Top Half of Radiator (have bled)

No nothing comes out. I turned the screw a quarter/half turn with no joy. I even undid it further but still nothing at all (air or water)

Cold Top Half of Radiator (have bled)

Hi all. I have a Rayburn with boiler attached that heats 4 radiators upstairs and a towel rail. All is good apart from the final radiator. The bottom of it is nice and toasty hot but the top isn't getting warm at all. Obviously my first thought is to bleed it but this doesn't help. Any idea...

    Rayburn (not getting hot enough)

Thanks Stix. I think we've got pretty dry wood but may try some kiln dried ones to see if that makes a difference. I guess they'll cost top dollar? So by 'regulate' do you mean pretty much shut off the air flow through the spinwheel and close up the chimney damper? Has anyone had any...

    Rayburn (not getting hot enough)

Hi Damian So you push the damper all the way in, and do up the spinwheel and find that it gets hot that way? In the same vein, would you open the spinwheel to cool it down or does that supply more air which helps it get hotter? How do you work it with the logs? Small ones and then big ones...

    Rayburn (not getting hot enough)

I get that wood burners aren't going to get the same heat as anthracite but they are designed to work, even if only just as an oven but I can't even get that hot, let alone heat the whole house. It is as if I am stuck in second gear, with wood burning but not really getting hot hot...so I need...

    Rayburn (not getting hot enough)

Hi John. Thanks for the reply. The chimney smokes away pretty well so that doesn't seem to be the problem luckily. When you refer to the lever to direct the hot gases under the oven, how do I get to this to check it (apologies but i am an ultra-novice!!). It is strange overall as it burns...

    Rayburn (not getting hot enough)

Hi all. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help. I have moved into a house with a wood-fired Rayburn in the kitchen, which I think is a Rayburn 212S although it does have the priority damper lever shown here: http://www.rayburn-web.co.uk/raytech/on355.htm Anyhow, this Rayburn is...
