I've posted another question about fuse boxes but thought it best to ask this separately as it is a distinct issue..
I have a random light switch which doesn't switch anything on. Also I have a fair few wires around (going to a defunct burglar alarm box outside the house etc).
Would I be looking at silly money to get someone to kind of 'map out' my wiring and remove any redundant cables etc as I have no idea where to start!.

Thanks in advance

Given this and you previous question - I would get an electrician in to complete a Periodic Inspection Report on your property. This should identify any wiring issues you have and clarify some of the points you raise. Get a few quotes.

Thanks Riveralt. I guessed I might need to...any rough rough estimates on the kind of dollar we're talking, just that my money is disappearing so fast at the moment!

I base my quotes on the number of circuits in the house being inspected.
Expect to pay anything from £100 - £250. If done properly the inspection and test will take between four and six hours (dependent on number of circuits) - could be longer.
Get three quotes and make sure they offer the same level of service.

Thanks. I'll get some quotes for that in the next week or so.

As for the switch, no there aren't any unattended plug sockets which would be affected by that switch, although I will have another look just in case.

Thanks
