Decommissioning vented cylinder heated by Danesmoor oil boiler

@Exedon I don’t disagree with your assessment of plumbers skills but there are very few plumbers in my area and even fewer with G3 cert and willingness to quote. So I’m trying to work with what I’ve got!

Decommissioning vented cylinder heated by Danesmoor oil boiler

@Exedon the hot water vented cylinder therefore unsealed and fed by a header tank in the loft. The central heating is also vented with an f&e tank in loft. I would be retaining the unvented central heating system. How would you propose to deal with decommissioning the vented cylinder flow and...

    Budget cost for extension

Yes the adjoining property has had a similar sized extension in the past so I am reasonably confident of obtaining planning permission. I’m sure it will be easier to get a quote once I have architects plans and pp but I would like to understand budget cost before purchasing.

    Budget cost for extension

Hi All I'm looking at purchasing a property in NW England which will require extending to meet our requirements. It is on a great plot / location so we are keen to progress but trying to understand what a budget cost for the works might look like. Not had much luck in finding a local builder...

    Strange bricks

Thanks all. They look exactly like the plinth bricks mentions by space worm so I’ll try and find some that match. Cheers :-)

    Strange bricks

Any idea what the bricks are called just below the rendered part and where I might get them from? Looking to block up a door.

    Patio project... advice needed

Hi all I’m about to embark on a fairly large remodel of my back garden. Two areas of patio around 60 m2 in total with a clay paver path linking the two. I’m using Baksteen pavers for the path and also as an edging around the patio. I’m going to lay two courses of them in a brick bond. I was...

    Repairing circular window frame

New frame finally arrived. Came with some circular wooden beading in six sections. The old window was externally beaded but I am considering if it would better to install the new one with internal bearing - more weatherproof. What is the done thing with these?

    Repairing circular window frame

Yeah I think I knew deep down 3 would be a bodge. I think I’ll go for 2 and shop around to see if I can get a new unit any cheaper. I was planning on repainting the old frame but if I’m putting in a new one in oak I’ll varnish. I’ll post a photo when it’s done!

    Repairing circular window frame

Hi Ken Unfortunately the oak frame price is supply only. I was planning on attempting to fit myself: wedge in place, then foam round the edge. Perhaps some stainless screws if I can hide them and get a decent fixing into the brickwork. I’m a reasonably competent DIYer though I must admit to...

    Repairing circular window frame

Hello All Catching up on the various maintenance jobs which the previous owner of our house had neglected... We have a round window with a stain glasses panel on the side of the house. It looked a bit iffy and when I poked it the frame turned out to be shot. It seems to be made from an outer...

Fancy that ! This article exactly sums up the views of some on here !

Hi Motman I couldn’t read the whole article unfortunately. It’s worth noting that is an opinion piece rather than fact. I see how the examples he gives could be seen as bullying. Might it also, if roles were reversed, be seen as using negotiating leverage? We were told before we left how we...

Hi Motman Can you share some examples of things which the EU has told us to do, and which we didn’t like? Also how have we been bullied or abused?

Hi Motman You are right, it is just speculation, although we are now able to speculate based on knowing exactly how we will be leaving Europe (Mays deal or no deal). You are also right that many predictions are wrong, but likewise, many are also correct. We go through lives making evidence...

Fancy that ! This article exactly sums up the views of some on here !

Hello Motman Yes I do get that more people voted to leave than remain in the referendum held three years ago. We were advised that once we voted to leave we would “hold all the cards” and would be able to agree a trade deal as good as we have now. We were told we would have a raft of trade...

Fancy that ! This article exactly sums up the views of some on here !

Where’s your evidence a majority want to leave? In EU elections Brexit parties won 35% of votes based on 37% turn out. That’s 13% of electorate. Doesn’t seem like much of a majority to me. Referendum best way to fix it, stick no deal on the ballot, and if there’s the majority you and...

Good point, a double pole switch in the house sounds like a sensible addition. Testing - I will look into this.

    Proposed wiring for workshop

Hello I would like to install an electrical supply to my workshop and would appreciate thoughts. The workshop is around 10 m from the house. I require 2 double sockets and lights. The CU in the house is RCD protected. There is already a non-functional "garage" circuit with a 32A MCB. This...
