    Central heating design question

Thanks for the reply. I've just got a regular two storey 3 bed semi. Nothing as sophisticated as multiple independent zones, just one room stat downstairs. Going back to my original question - the pipework for upstairs has two loops (on the same floor). One loop supplies the front wall and the...

    Central heating design question

Hi there - In the process of doing some work on the floors upstairs, I've noticed that there are two radiator loops - 3 rads on one and 4 on another. There's also a loop downstairs (with 22mm pipe feeding the D/S circuit). System is regular fully pumped open vent system. Should I join the two...

    Overpumping question

Actually, just turning the boiler stat down (it was on max) has stopped it pumping over, and the pump is still running on three. Many thanks for your suggestions :D Jude

    Overpumping question

Potterton Suprima 60, but I think I'll stick with the open vent system. I'm going to remove the air strainer (see my other post) and renew the cold feed pipe and tee and maybe raise the FE tank. Not sure about that last bit yet, my ceilings are over 2.5 meters high. Cheers, Jude

Please help identify name of pipework

Here's a pic - vent on top, dribbling hot water in to my FE tank, CF is the 15mm pipe just above the pump which is on the flow side. Does this look right? Do I need the air separator?

Please help identify name of pipework

Hello everyone - can anyone name this: Bell shape with flat bottom, 22mm vent pipe from the top of the bell, 2 x 22mm flow and return pipes into the bottom of the (flat) bell. What's it called, and why have I got one? Many thanks, Jude

    Overpumping question

Thanks dude - I've drained and refilled the system about 4 times in the last month (adding various radiators, doing repairs etc - just moved in) and the system fills up fairly quickly. If the CF was blocked - wouldn't I have noticed slow system filling time? Would even some restriction (scale...

    Overpumping question

Hi folks, With the central heating on and hot water off and the pump (50) on speed 3, the system pumps over into the header tank - it's a steady trickle, rather than anything more violent. If I turn the pump down to 2, the overpumping stops, but the two rads at the end of the circuit stay luke...

New downstairs rad tee'd into upstairs circuit cold

Noticed that the bypass circuit was fully open. Shut that off and the new rad is now hot, but the towel rad a bit further along is cold. Thanks for your help folks, hopefully balancing the system will fix it. Cheers, Jude

New downstairs rad tee'd into upstairs circuit cold

Ok - will give it a go... when balancing a radiator, does it matter if you shut down the flow or return side of the rad? Cheers, Jude

New downstairs rad tee'd into upstairs circuit cold

Well, I shut down all the upstairs rads and the new rad got nice and hot. Bled more air out of the system. However, opening the upstairs rads up - just enough to get them hot, but not all the way, causes the new rad to get cool (very luke warm now). Having uncovered some pipework, I've...

New downstairs rad tee'd into upstairs circuit cold

Hi - I shut down the last upstairs rad in the circuit, near where I've put the tees to downstairs to see if that would push water into the new rad, but all that's happened is that the flow and return pipes are cooling at that end, so water isn't circulating at all it would appear. How does an...

New downstairs rad tee'd into upstairs circuit cold

Hi guys, first post here - so hi ! I've put a radiator into a cold part of a kitchen extension and because there was no easy way to extend the downstairs circuit (without chasing out concrete, drilling through a double brick exterior wall), I tee'd into the flow and return of the upstairs...
