Please help identify name of pipework

Hello everyone - can anyone name this:

Bell shape with flat bottom, 22mm vent pipe from the top of the bell, 2 x 22mm flow and return pipes into the bottom of the (flat) bell.

What's it called, and why have I got one?

Here's a pic - vent on top, dribbling hot water in to my FE tank, CF is the 15mm pipe just above the pump which is on the flow side.

Does this look right? Do I need the air separator?

I`d look @ the cold feed where that elbow is - for a blockage , with a fridge magnet - probably more info in the wiki here
