great it started, it just proves put the wires in the wright place ie spade connector, and help from you guys, it was because the connectors were differant to the original starter that blow my brain,thanks again neil

i connected the small switch wire to the right hand thread and nut, will put it on the spade connector, from what you say that should be wright,

just a throught, in between the two threads on the solinoid is a spade connector. would that be used for anything :?:

so you mean just swap the cables over, sounds too simple :lol:

put the switch wire onto the right hand thread on the solinoid, bingo the starter turns, trouble is that is all it does, it wizzes round on the turn of the key, but doesnt actually turn the engine, i assume it isnt engaged with the fly wheel, any suggestions :idea: neil

will try putting the switch wire by the main pos tomorrow , all that can go wrong is it will go bang let u know how i get on :shock: :shock:

comming back to the sloinoid, the is no secound wire running into the bowels of the starter, also as i said ive changed the pos and switch wire, whats cofusing me is the replacment cables came with a connector with the main pos and the switch wire connected to the solinoid next to each other...

if all that is wright, ive already changed all the wires its got to the secound hand starter then, it cant be antthing else, thanks

i may sound stupid here, but the starter i have fitted is slightly differant to original, i followed how it was wired before, but something is wrong, the main pos from the battery goes to the solinoid, left hand thread , the switch cable goes down to a thread at the bottom of the back of the...

transit r reg 2.5, has anybody got a photo of the back of the starter, just so i can check i have all the wires in the right place, especially the switch wire thanks :?: :?:

at the side of the battery is a fuse box holding 2 big fuses, the yellow has blown , good guess that. s why there is no power, having truoble getting a switch wire, promised one for tues

i was bering very carefull about the way i connected the pos, but it could have been possible the lead might have been touching the body of the starter when i put it on the switch connection and of course that would cause it to spark , will check battery tomoz am i wright there is a main relay...

did what u said, it didnt turn over, it just sparked, now all the dashboard lights have gone out and the van is totally dead , not good

thanks for the the advice. will try it tomorrow, if it is the solinoid where do i find it, as you probably guess am new to this game, is it on the side of the starter or up by the battery. lets hope its just the wire, thanks again neil

the jump leads are a good set, good thick ones in full woking order, u may be right about where i am connecting pos lead, the one im using is the large pos on the left of starter looking at it insitu, which one should it be connected too,the only other connections r a one on the back with a red...

just tried putting the jump leads on anouther car and putting the the pos on the starter, neg on battrires conected to give earth through other car, still no life in starter, so it looks like it will have to come off again at least it is easy to do, not like the parero ive got. neil

have tried jump lead to engine no change , so the earth must be alright,ive even run a jump lead to the positive on the starter from the pos on the battery, no change, theres a black and red wire running from the back of the starter to a black cylinderical part with loads of differant coloured...

its an r reg.the led does go out once the key has been in for a few secounds, so its not the immobilizer, will try the jump lead from the battery neg to the engine block tomorrow, heater fans and lights etc are working. when i first had trouble starting , there was some electrical smoke and...
