    Toilet flush replacement

@Wayners thanks for your assistance. I have for now refitted the prior inlet valve as it was functional: I was changing it because I was fixing the other problems (cistern-toilet interface, knackered syphon valve). Although it is plastic shank, it has gone back together easy peasy. So I now have...

    Toilet flush replacement

Its a plastic shank inlet valve. As was the one I removed. The inlet pipe has a plastic push fitting onto the copper, a washer (doesn't look like fibre to me), and a brass nut. So the threading is brass onto plastic, as the last one was. Its also bloody awkward positioning in that you can't get...

    Toilet flush replacement

@Wayners thanks for that. I had actually gone to a plumbing shop since I originally posted, and they have in fact sold me a couple that won't do the job. However, your post has shown me the light. and although that is not the right size for the job, it made me realise that I was misunderstanding...

    Toilet flush replacement

Thanks. Having looked though ("Cistern Washer") they only have 2" and 1 1/2", and the outlet / inlet is 2 1/2 inch. Umm. I'll keep looking to see if I can find a suitable size one.

    Toilet flush replacement

Fully aware its a cistern. However mine likes to identify as a tank, and who am I to deny it ?

    Toilet flush replacement

I need to replace the flush on a toilet (close coupled). I bought a fluid master dual flush https://www.screwfix.com/p/fluidmaster-4550073-1-1-2-and-2-button-cable-dual-flush-bottom-inlet/58353 which I've used before on other toilets in the house. Albeit its been a small number of years since I...

    Bathroom Light IP Rating

just to be clear, there was a joke in there. Hence the winking emoji. it clearly was a 'miss'.

    Bathroom Light IP Rating

I have to say that was my first thought when I saw the picture. It may not officially need to be IP44 rated, but wires showing like that in an open structure

    Bathroom Light IP Rating

what has that got to do with the IP rating of his light ? ;)

    Consumer Unit Replacement -approx cost

Actually, there are 12 slots, but 2 have blank plates. So fitting a 12 or 14 may not be a problem. I'll definitely pick that up with him. As you say, would not seem to be the right thing to do.

    Consumer Unit Replacement -approx cost

Its 10 (actually slots 9 currently in use but only because one of the circuits (radial) was switched over to piggy back onto an RCD slot). Space could be an issue. I'll ask the electrician. I certainly see merit in having spare even if its not clear what demand one might have in future.

    Consumer Unit Replacement -approx cost

It has been specified for me: perhaps I need to ask the question. I'm going to assume that fitting a 12 or 14 way rather than a 10 way isn't going to be a significant difference price wise. Useful observation, thanks.

    Smart meter ?

Octopus Tracker is something I have got curious about (I'm currently with Octopus). Do you get a notification of what the day rate is and how do you receive it ? Or do you need to go check on the meter ? I can see it could be useful for decisions on e.g. washing machine (and whether you are...

    Consumer Unit Replacement -approx cost

Hi, I'm looking to have our consumer unit replaced: as noted on a thread I started a couple of months ago its old, has insufficient RCDs, and is overall just 'a bit ***t'. I had an electrician I had in for some other work look at a little while ago and now have a quote. I was wondering whether...

MCB Failure or something else ?

I definitely would not intend to muck around with that myself. I was more musing that it was something I could get an electrician to do without having to change the whole CU - although I do see merit in that, and its less a cost thing and more a time thing at the moment

MCB Failure or something else ?

There is actually one slot that is labelled "Immersion Heater" on the RHS (5th slot out). There is no longer any immersion heater fitted, and indeed wasn't when we moved in several moons ago. So as a short term, I guess it could be feasible to move the circuit feed over to that B16 (and indeed I...

MCB Failure or something else ?

So thinking about it yesterday evening, I came to the conclusion that most likely the MCB was a red herring / just co-incidental and it was most likely a loose connection issue e.g. at one of the sockets. [which @terryplumb clearly also concluded]. During the night, the sockets became live again...

MCB Failure or something else ?

Wow. Ok, so now here is the really really weird thing. Having decided to put this to one side until the morning, a few hours later I've gone back upstairs and everything that was plugged in has sprung back to life. And I mean like I'm not making this s**t up or imagining it. Things plugged in...

MCB Failure or something else ?

Thanks. There is definitely nothing like that fitted in anything remotely a "likely to find" place. We've been in the house for 13 years so it would probably have been unearthed by now. I'm going to test the feed out from the MCB tomorrow morning, and see what that is telling me.

MCB Failure or something else ?

Many Thanks. Yes, when using an (apparently not very liked) test screwdriver, if I only get a "not-live" from it I always go test it on something I know defo should be. Never had one fail yet, but also don't want to get fried.
