    Pre-pay meter woes :(

Looks like it's getting resolved, thanks for the suggestions. Ecotricity are happy to swap the meter back to a normal one if I switch to them and surprise, surprise, EDF changed their minds when I told them and are offering to swap the meter back too. Not that any of this is relevant to my...

    Pre-pay meter woes :(

Nope, EDF but I suspect they're all the same. Ringing round other suppliers now and the lady from Ecotricity seemed very helpful. Waiting for a call back from their metering dept. "...but the recruiting sergeant seemed like such a nice chap...." :)

    Pre-pay meter woes :(

Hello everyone, Not really 'DIY' as such but I thought I'd give this a go here and see if anyone has any suggestions... I own a small property down in west Cornwall which I rent out for holiday lets. Due to a combination of factors (including incompetence on my part  ), my bills were...

PART P, ive got an interesting one.

Presumably, rather than chase a new cable into the wall for a cooker or something, they've brought it up the outside of the house. Does the neighbour also have an issue with the house's gables projecting into his garden's airspace as well :) I'd be interested to hear the outcome of this -...

    Motor Start Cap

Inductance is proportional to turns squared... Slightly counter-intuitive but in essence if you double the turns, there is twice as much magnetic flux and twice as many turns for it to act on, hence the squaring. if 1mm and 0.5mm are diameters then 20x0.5 has four times the inductance of...

Putting a 16A commando socket in my garage

Hmmm, I'll be keeping quiet about the 2.5hp air compressor as well as the welder then.

Putting a 16A commando socket in my garage

If it's not required to have RCD protection then I'll put a new 16A Type C in and and rcd on the socket. Was reluctant to use RCBO because it looks a bit crowded in the CU. Only about 2 metres from the CU to the new socket so Zs should be pretty low.

Putting a 16A commando socket in my garage

Hey, thanks for the replies. Welder is rated at 15A and (from memory) the manual recommends hard wiring or using a 16/32A plug Just been out to have a look and the ring in the garage is on a 16A mcb so looks like it would be suitable as regards protection for a 16A socket but not a good...

Putting a 16A commando socket in my garage

Hello everyone, I have a single phase MIG welder which when run on full power draws just a little bit too much current for a 13A plug and it tends to use fuses if I don't weld in very short bursts. I intend to put a 16A commando plug on it instead. Can I put a 16A socket as a spur off...
