    Securing substitute lead on abutments

    A waste of life

Blair again! You used to get a free degree in a useful subject if you were up to standard, then Blair wanted 50% of students to go to university while simultaneously introducing fees at £1000 a year (now over £9000) and condemning a large chunk of our youth to become over qualified cup of...

    Securing substitute lead on abutments

I would consider that as a temp fix only. But if you're happy to live with it for a few years, you could get a large washer (8mm x 50 penny washer) under the bolt heads to stop the vegan lead from pulling out. Ali strip would work too.

    New "Roundup" doesn't work...

As others have experienced, I find it takes longer to work than it says on the box. By which time other weeds have sprouted to replace the ones you've sprayed. I buy the single use tubes or sachets in a 5 litre bottle with lance. I get better results when I add a splash of SBK into the bottle.

    Ground/Wall Anchor issue

You could build a dead weight anchor. Get a large bucket, something like a plasterers mixing bucket and fill it with a strong concrete mix. Suspend one end of a heavy duty security chain into it, with a bit of rebar or a chunky bolt poked through the end, coil some brick reinforcement mesh in...

    Ladder on pitched roof advice

It does sound sketchy though, relying on the friction of the foam for the whole lot to not slide down.

    Ladder on pitched roof advice

First problem is that the eye bolts might pull out, second problem is that the straps would mean the ladder is wobbly at the bottom end. Get to the ridge from the other side using a roofing ladder, then pull up another roofing ladder and place it on this side. But you'll need to be good with...

    Engine lifting beam In workshop

That was my first thought. Although could also use a block and chain with a beam clamp, still movable. The original idea of using a flitch beam would work, but it might be cheaper to just add an additional timber, or use 8x3 (or 9 or 10x3) The timber can be notched on the bottom at each end...

How to approach laying a path here

Slabs. Concrete paths are ugly, why go to the hassle of mixing concrete and waiting for it to set, when someone else has gone that trouble for you and will sell you the final product (slabs) for not very much money.
