Cant find a common agreement on insulation & down lights....

Thanks Simon. Do you think that the minimum 50mm Celotex, I'd have 'above' the fitting (but approx 25mm away from it) would still make it 'cold'?...I was thinking it would be partly insulated and the fact that the entire roof being open to atmosphere and with airflow would result in no moisture...

Cant find a common agreement on insulation & down lights....

The roof is vented, so in principle there's a void above the insulation and moisture shouldn't be an issue I believe...but maybe that's not correct? Or are you suggesting that the moisture would be inside the pockets I make within the insulation? I'll look at the surface mounted units if they...

Cant find a common agreement on insulation & down lights....

The sparky will do first fix and route the lighting ring around the rafters etc before the insulation goes in, therefore leaving tails for each down-light. How do I allow for the tails to be in the correct position within the insulation...both the 100mm between rafters and 50mm bottom side of...

Cant find a common agreement on insulation & down lights....

Hello & thanks for the feedback gents... I have had reservations on 12 units, and originally was looking at 8 which I've seen in a friends similar size room. But, I like a really bright room and my thought was I can always dim them if required. My roof is all up etc...and I hadn't considered...

Cant find a common agreement on insulation & down lights....

Hi All, I'm kind of hoping to get confidence in my decision to have spots fitted into the ceiling of our new extension, but keep coming across different advice...help would be welcome! We're looking to fit 12 LED spots (Aurora Pro 6w) into a lean-to pitched roof, split into two circuits on...

Best deals for Keylite or Velux

Hello All, I'm looking for the best sources for 4 windows and found roofing superstore for Velux seems to be the best value...but can't find too many sources for Keylite and the ones I've found are more expensive than Velux. This seems odd as I was under the impression Velux was more...

    Electric Velux....or Keylite

Hello all, Looking to install at least 3 windows as as part of a big refurb in a ground floor 3m x 8m room, with lean-to pitched roof. windows will be approx 3m high at the pull bar. Has anyone used this before?

Cheers John, I could lay 9mm everywhere but it will take longer for the UFH to heat up 9mm than 6mm....not by much but it will be longer....and it costs more to buy. Also, adding 3mm to the joists will mean that all three rooms on the GF will have the UFH Insulation panels and pipework all at...

    Has anyone used this before?

Hi, I'm installing UFH in three GF rooms, then laying LVT, and need to get them all at the same floor levels too. To do this I end up with needing to lay 2 different thicknesses of Floor grade PLY to satisfy the top flooring specifications...9mm & 6mm. I'd prefer to only use one thickness, to...

Heated floor with tiles better than heated floor with Karndean or other?

Thanks Dave, Just found 18mm T&G ply at Arnold Laver @ £12.50 sqm....its a distance away to deliver (2hrs) but the closest I could get. They also do 22mm but its 30% more...do you think I need the extra thickness for what I'm looking to do?

Heated floor with tiles better than heated floor with Karndean or other?

Thanks Dave, I'll look at Parador. I wasn't looking at any clik LVT but the loose lay as its a longboard type. However I've had different views from fitters as to avoid it and it's great!....so a bit stumped, as I know its probably better to follow convention but i like the look of a longer...

Heated floor with tiles better than heated floor with Karndean or other?

Thanks Dave, That's some great & detailed information. Having spent a bit more time looking at this stuff, some manufacturers of Engineered are saying that I must have at least 6mm ply AND a suitable underlay..like a 2mm thermal thing...between the UFH and their Engineered floor. Which makes...

Heated floor with tiles better than heated floor with Karndean or other?

Hello, We're entering the world of flooring and have made the decision to have Underfloor heating (wet) for flexibility and a general cosy feeling, and are now bouncing around between Engineered Oak floor...possibly mixed with ceramic decorative tiles around the kitchen area...or...new into the...

    Engineered flooring recommendations

Hello All, I'm looking to put down 18mm or 20mm Oak flooring across about 60sq/m of a ground floor, and am looking for supplier / manufacturer recommendations please. I've seen V4 at a local flooring shop, which looked OK but are there others I should consider? I'm looking at wide board /...
