s'okay. sorted it. the wire should attach to the bottom of a little white ignition block. *whatever* held it on must have fallen off and got up the hoover at some point. I've improvised a means of attaching wire to this. Be nice to know how it should be though...

Correction...that isn't a wire going into the bottom of the electrode. It's a metal cable.
