    Help with broken toilet flusher

Two things to say to that: 1. All these methods, while they are very creative and much appreciated, aren't sufficient, otherwise I wouldn't still be asking. I just tried a strong magnet and had no luck, the only one left to try is drilling the plastic. 2. it wouldn't take half an hour to...

    Help with broken toilet flusher

Thanks folks. I'm not sure if the photo is a bit rubbish, but actually the gap between the rod and its white plastic surround is about 1mm, and there is practically no gap between the white plastic (which also lifts up) and its brown surroundings. So gripping onto it with forceps/nail files etc...

    Help with broken toilet flusher

Hehehe, thanks very much for the idea! Unfortunately that rod in the center is metal and not plastic :( Although the white surround is plastic but I'm not sure I can make that work. I am more interested in doing a short-term fix rather than taking the cistern off, as I don't think I will be at...

    Help with broken toilet flusher

Cheers. Still trying to get the superglue to stick at the moment, hopefully will be able to sort this soon. I did wonder if the alignment of the flushing mechanism had something to do with it, as the problem started when I bought a new lever. The problem I have there is that I am limited by...

    Help with broken toilet flusher

I missed the latest reply. Yes the superglue idea is very good, thanks. Once I manage to do this, is there an easy way to fix the fact that the rod gets stuck in the up position (doesn't always naturally retract) whilst flushing? Would this still require taking the whole thing apart etc? Thanks

    Help with broken toilet flusher

Thank you very much for the fast responses, It has come unhooked rather than snapped; as it would often get stuck while flushing, I would have to wiggle the metal hook around a bit for it to move/retract properly. Last time I did this I managed to unhook it somehow. That little metal bit in the...

    Help with broken toilet flusher

Hello, I have a problem with the flushing system of my toilet. I'm not really sure of part names, I looked at a bunch of diagrams on google images, but somehow ended up even more confused! I hope I can describe the parts sufficiently so that someone can maybe help. (From pictures, it seems to be...

    MDF paint touch up?

Yeah , that was my concern, I really don't want to do it all again :? Although, I thought that maybe spraying straight over already-painted MDF would either leave it looking patchy, or otherwise not adhere properly... what would be the 'standard' practice in this scenario? Cheers

    MDF paint touch up?

Hello, I am putting together a sort of desk, and I have two desktop cabinets made from MDF which have already been painted in black for me. I am attaching an MDF shelf to the top of it myself, which I am planning to paint black to match. I didn't want to paint the cabinets myself because they...

Newbie desk modification questions... (advice pls!!)

Thanks for the great advice here! I'm gonna go to the timber yard, and have a look at some MDF and pine boards etc, also do a quick price comparison. Once I have my bits I may end up back on here asking for paint or screwing tips, if that's ok :) Foxhole - I already have the 2 ready made 19"...

Newbie desk modification questions... (advice pls!!)

Thanks again for all the advice! Are pine boards a seperate thing to natural pine timber? Would pine boards be the strongest of the three? And John - I bet you're not so used to the funky colours and dodgy angles! Foxhole - the box units have to stay because they are specially built for 19"...

Newbie desk modification questions... (advice pls!!)

Thanks, that's answered most of my questions, thank you! I found a local timber place that said they will cut me a sheet of Pine to size, for just a few pounds, and "plain" the edges to make it look presentable, (I didnt know if the 2x4 ends would look good planed...) Would you recommend MDF...

Newbie desk modification questions... (advice pls!!)

Hello, I have joined this forum because I am planning to modify a desk, and I was hoping for some advice with joining parts together. I am definitely not a carpentry inclined person, and before joining here I was contemplating paying a local handyman to give me some advice... so hopefully...
