    Radiator valves suitable?

Yes, the feeds do come out from the floor and the valves are angled correctly. I've fitted all the valves ready but when screwing the thread into the radiator with PTFE, it doesn't have a stop on it, so I'm not sure how far the thread screws in to the rad itself?

    Radiator valves suitable?

Hi, I've purchased some anthracite radiator valves (ebay) to hang a new tower radiator and wanted to double check as they are not what I expected when they arrived. I've attached an image to help. Firstly, the brass/chrome threads shown aren't like the picture as they've also been coated in...

    Cut edge against full tile

Problem is. There won't be a uniform border around unless I cut the main tiles due to the walls being unequal. I was thinking that originally but it could look strange in places where the border is much deeper than other places. I could try the file and smooth out the edges for the grout.

    Cut edge against full tile

I'm going to lay a tiled floor in my hallway. Unfortunately, it's got lots of angles, alcoves and external corners. I would like to lay a patterned tile with border, but its unlikely to work out due to the number of unmatched walls. I was thinking of laying the tiles as best I can and lay in a...

    Timber frame weep vents

I'm building a small timber frame cavity wall above a new window. There's no lintel as its fixed to an adjoining wall. With a brick wall, I usually put some DPM in as a cavity tray with weep vents above the window. Having never built a timber cavity, I was wondering if it's the same principle...

    Insulated plasterboard

Thanks. Do Wedi washers sit flush with the surface of the board? I wasn't going to skim the boards as they are mostly out of sight. I was going to fill and tape.

    Insulated plasterboard

I have a staircase in my house with 3 external walls (cavity, not insulated) Because it gets cold, I'm always having mould in the corners which spread. I'm upgrading the radiator and was thinking of using insulated plasterboard under the staircase where the issue occurs. I've used battens and...

    Setting out Cambrian

OK great, as its a shallow pitch (around 17°) there's a minimum headlap. I will double check and see if it works out. Thanks again.

    Setting out Cambrian

Hi, I'm installing a roof using Cambrian's. It's a mono pitch roof so I need to measure out how many rows, but as they're interlocking, I can't alter the headlap measurements. If I get to the top course against the wall, am I able to drill holes in the slate and batten it if its short? I...

    Internal corner lead flashing

Thanks for that. Only thing is, I will have to turn the edges to fit into the chases. So does the corner need to be bossed to form the point? Sorry for all the questions but it's too late when there's water running in :D:ROFLMAO:

    Internal corner lead flashing

So my mrs thought I had taken up Origami last night! Is this the sort of thing that would suffice? And if so does only 1 need to be turned in to the chase and the other flashing can sit over it. In other words do both corner peices need to have this done to them? Thanks again for all advice

    Internal corner lead flashing

Thanks for advice. I was going to get up there tomorrow with some paper !! I'll try and get some pics. Would the horizontal chase and the angled pitch chase need to meet? I've seen it before where the angles pitch chase sits under the horizontal where it meets in the corner. I'll have a...

    Internal corner lead flashing

Hi, I'm about to start a small roof monopitch roof on my house which has a recessed area so basically has 2 internal corners and an external corner. Before I chase in the lead I wanted to ask what is correct way of doing the internal corners? I was hoping to have a small upstand of lead and...

    Capping over PVC

I'm looking to cap over my existing pvc fascias as they're looking tired and are the old rounded moulding. I am changing the colour to match other parts of the house. They are in good nick and so I was hoping to cap straight over the existing pvc. There's no soffit and the boards sit straight...

Tiling / insulation / underfloor heating

My wife wants ceramic tiles in our hallway which is quite large (22sqm). I've said under no circumstances am I tiling straight on to our concrete floor due to the the heat loss and chill on the tiles. I looked at underfloor heating mats but I won't be able to run it to the fuseboard and don't...

    Smoothing sloping floor

I believe its concrete with a dpm as its an extension added on to the original house maybe in the 70s/80s?

    Smoothing sloping floor

I currently have a lounge with LVT which I am replacing. Unfortunately, it has a slope across part of the length. As I assume I can't lay LVT over an existing floor covering, I need to rip up the old and somehow smooth it ready for glue down LVT (I don't really want LVT click). I can't level...

    Foil insulation in roof?

My BCO has asked for 150mm celotex insulation in my vaulted porch roof with 50mm air gap. Would there be any benefit in tacking up foil insulation before the plasterboard? I know the foil will be compressed but is there any need for me to be concerned over potential bridging of cold through...

    Noggins on mono-pitch roof?

Building Control haven't been around yet. Need to set the rafters up first. Will ask when he comes around but wondered if people put them in. My roofer friend onmy said if I did then avoid fitting them flush with the tip of the rafter as it can trap the fabric and stop any water running down if...

    Noggins on mono-pitch roof?

My BO told me that the timbers need to be 175mm structurally BUT as the regs require 150mm insulation plus 50mm air gap I need 200mm joists. I was only putting in noggins for twisting. If I can get away without then even better. I will probably overboard with insulated plasterboard also for extra
