    Log cabin floor insulation

I've built a log cabin (14ft x 10ft) with 28mm walls from a kit. The cabin is on a gravel grid base, and rests on 2-inch bearers. I haven't yet laid the floorboards, and would like to insulate between the bearers before doing so. Will this cause any issues or can I simply lay EPS boards in...

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

Thanks, I was hoping that could be an option. I'm going to call him tomorrow and fingers crossed he's as pragmatic as you...

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

Do you think I'll have to pull up enough vinyl planks to expose what I imagine will be a full board of plywood (that covers the floorboards) or do you think the heating engineer could cut a section out of the plywood and then cut a couple of boards to get to it?

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

It's a rubbish photo as I've had to poke a camera on a stick through a hole in the floor, but could this be the pump? It's next to the flow/return pipes and seems to be where the power cable goes to...

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

In my simple thinking, just because the cable disappears under the floor on the right hand side of the fireplace doesn't mean that's where the pump is. I would imagine that the pump is more likely to be on the left hand side of the boiler where the water pipes exit. I just want to be a bit more...

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

OK thanks. The controller is on the right hand side of the fireplace / back boiler. There's a cable disappearing under the flooring there along with another 2 pipes. I guess the next task is to lift the floor and floorboards to see where that cable goes?

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

The plumber has been and said it's 99% likely to be the pump. He's said for me to find the pump and he'll then come back and take another look (rather than paying him to hunt for it). I've taken off the boxing in to the left of the fireplace, taken up the floorboards in the bedroom above and...

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

Ah, OK - thank you. In which case I guess it's best to call a plumber rather than electrician to take a look?

Honeywell ST699 tripping RCD when sliding CH switch

We have a back boiler controlled by a Honeywell ST699 programmer (CH & HW). The CH has been switched off all summer, with the HW continuing to be run as normal. I've just tried sliding the CH slider switch to turn on the CH, and it's tripping the RCD. I turned off the CH slider, reset the...

Freshly painted french door sticking to door jamb

Hi. I've painted our exterior french doors and the right hand door is sticking to the door jamb nearest the hinge (not the door frame that the hinge is mounted to; It's the jamb that it shuts against). It's like the door is now too tight to it, so it is getting squashed against it. I've...

Cutting decorative/contemporary/European fence panels to size

I've got a 6-metre run of fencing to erect, and would like to use some 1.8m wide 'square horizontal panels'. These are decorative/contemporary/continental/European panels (whatever you choose to call them) which have two 'nice' sides. I am faced with the perrenial challenge in that I am going...

    Stairs: joining two newel bases

Many thanks for all your replies - particulary stevethejoiner - most detailed...thanks. You suggest not using polyurethane glue. What would you advise as an alternative? What is the best method for removing the centre third of wood from the existing newel base and the two outer thirds of...

    Stairs: joining two newel bases

Hi all, Would appreciate some help. We currently have a death-trap staircase whereby there is no bannister. The newel base has been sawn-off at a low height, and I'm wondering if it's possible to attach another form of newel base to it, thereby extending the height. I've uploaded some...
