You've got slates not tiles, your missing a slate! Measure your slate size then get and fit a new slate using a lead strap.

Thin down first coat of emulsion heavily with water ( thin as pi55) for the new plaster it will soak in and give the next coat a proper key. I think you'l end up having to paint the whole wall so not to see a difference between old and new.

Use a nice long level say 1800mm and go atound the room and map the floor to find the highs and lows Set a level string line from the high point across joists so you know where to pack up to. Bracing is to prevent joists from twisting, not realy a fix for leveling.

Top coat it again. Yes it will leak through if the top coat is a bit thin and the water may be lying in places too.
