    Floor joists for garage conversion

I've got an answer from the technician now - the solution is to use wool instead as there can't be any void under the floor. If the depth is 150mm then wool gives the equivalent u-value of 50mm PIR. Where it is 100mm it is slightly worse than 50mm PIR but is acceptable. Good news is that wool...

    Floor joists for garage conversion

The spec says 50mm battens (joists) with 50mm PIR in between - all sitting on DPM. Shimming will be a pain as will be trying to get the PIR to sit flush with the top of the battens where they are shimmed but that's the spec. My only question is if the 50mm battens are more like 100mm joists...

    Floor joists for garage conversion

Mainly due to cost - Kingspan K103 @ 100mm is pretty much double the price of 50mm (I expect similar for other PIR manufacturers). The target U-value is met by the 50mm PIR.

    Floor joists for garage conversion

I have BC sign-off on specification to convert my integral garage. There is already an insulated concrete floor, the specification is to put down DPM (sheet) and then to install 50 x 50 timbers resting on top (shimmed to deal with slope of floor), 50mm PIR between battens and finish with 22mm...

Radiator valve connection to towel radiator

I'm trying to avoid a system drain down - also the existing pipe work is wider than the new rad so it will involve some faff anyway.

Radiator valve connection to towel radiator

Hopefully someone can help with this. I'm replacing a regular radiator with a new towel radiator. I'm trying to use the existing valves and I believe the connection is a "union" type. The valve connection to the radiator is at 90 degrees but the new radiator has the connections on the bottom...

    Surface water issue

I can't fall the patio anywhere obvious. The whole of my back garden slopes towards the house. Years ago I dug out the first 3 metres or so and levelled it and had a patio laid. Now I'm trying to extend that patio into essentially an L shape. I've effectively dug a cheese wedge out of the...

    Surface water issue

Sorry being a numpty here - are you suggesting a drain linked into the existing drain system used for taking away rainwater via downpipes?

    Surface water issue

Hi All, I'm currently in the process of excavating an area of my back garden for a patio. The garden slopes up away from my house and an existing patio. The soil is really poorly drained and I often get pools of water after heavy rain. After digging the big hole (about 4m x 4m) it has...
