    Paint over exterior roofline varnish

thanks @DiyNutJob "sealing against water is as important as painting." do you mean making sure any cracks etc are sealed to prevent water penetration?

    Paint cracking

Not a decorator so this not meant to be an answer but it reminds me of when you see dry ground that is lacking water - has the wall sucked moisture out of the paint ?

    Paint over exterior roofline varnish

My roofline fascia boards are currently varnished but look dated and flaking in a few areas. What undercoat and topcoat is recommended? The wife would like the topcoat to be two tones of brown/chocolate colour so I was thinking I cannot use an off the shelf colour and may need to get a specific...

Convert section of garage into office

The garage is not accessed from the house, so it is indeed lower than the house and level with the ground outside. I am not sure if there is a DPM

Convert section of garage into office

Ok thanks. I think the rad would be the cheapest option and give the best consistent heat. Although the room only has one external wall, I guess it would be best to insulate the floor, walls and ceiling as well. thanks

Convert section of garage into office

I would like to convert a section of my garage into an office and would like any advice on how best to go about it. - The garage is attached to the side of the house. - It already has an internal brick wall which partitions the garage into two sections; one for the car, and the other which is...

    Garage door realignment

very true might be more hassle than it's worth. The door works but just catches slightly, and has the unslightly gap ! I just had it in my head that the door could be easily aligned from the spring

    Garage door realignment

could be an option thanks. I wondered if there was some way to adjust/align the door using the springs above the garage door ?

    Garage door realignment

thanks for reply. I'm fairly sure the frame is sqaure to brickeork. A spirit level check on all three sides of the frame show it to be square, but the garage door is visually slightly wonky

    Garage door realignment

Bought a second hand Hormann canopy garage door to replace my old door. The Hormann came prehung on a wooden frame, which I have successfully bolted to the brickwork in garage. The frame is square to the brickwork, but you can see from the picture, the door doesnt appear to be square inside the...

Could this be the cause of my musty smell (house not me)

I think this is probably good advice. I don't like the condition of the subframe and chipboard, so its either replace the all of this or go back to a concrete floor. The question would be if I went down this route, what do I do with the pipes and electric cables ? If no moisture appears on the...

Could this be the cause of my musty smell (house not me)

Ok apologies for delay. I have now lifted the floor again and I take it back it does smell musty under there. Plastic is down but I guess I need to wait a while to see if moisture appears. Will report back. To be honest it is very dusty and feels dry so hopefully no damp rising.

    Strengthen Climbing Frame

thanks for reply big-all. Sorry I am rather dim so just to clarify. Do you mean create an X on top of the whole structure by having a piece of wood going from a corner post to the opposite corner post, repeated for the other two corner posts. I might struggle to get a piece of wood long enough...

Could this be the cause of my musty smell (house not me)

Thanks for reply John... No water meter, we are connected directly to the mains (somehow) Soil pipe and kitchen sink feed into a pipe which runs along the back of the house (maybe 1/2 metre from house). There is another one at the front of the house. These both connect into a man hole and then...

    Strengthen Climbing Frame

Thanks im sure 90cm instead of 30cm would have been better, although there isnt any movement at the bottom of the posts, its just at the top. Thanks for the suggestion. I had wondered about some corner pieces. I can easily add use 6 x 2 in the corner between joists. For the pieces between post...

Could this be the cause of my musty smell (house not me)

1971 built house with musty smell. Solid brick walls downstairs (two rows of bricks no breezeblock) with timber frames upstairs. The house has concrete floors, but has a strange 2-3 inch timber floor to allow pipes underneath (see pics). When we viewed the property it was occupied by three...

As you might expect I have...

    Drain and refill system ?

Thanks for reply. I've attached three photos. When I turn the black knob on the braided cable I don't hear any water going in, or do I need to do this when the boiler is on ? Is the Tap at the bottom of the boiler in third picture where I would drain it ? Finally the red electrical part on...
