    Thanks I appreciate the planning concerns. Good thinking on forming a box then cladding it with decking boards. thanks. You say bearers two foot centers and they recommend joists every 16 inches. anyone think this might be overkill? I don't want the deck ending up like a trampoline either...

    Thanks for helpful replies and links. yes I am aware of planning thanks. the deck is 4.2m x 3.6m = 15.12m2 at a height of approx 1ft (300mm). so if I used a 4 inch cavity block on its flat with a 3x2 bearer on top and 4x2 joists on that and 1 inch decking board would give me the foot... would...
