    mix on site concrete suppliers

can anyone recommend a good (not too expensive !) concrete delivery service for near Heathrow just outside west London, or even a good nationwide service - I need about 5 to 6 cubic metres for foundations for a new garage wall where the lorry can probably get to about 20 metres from the trench...

    Blocks for external walls ?

Hi, I'm going round in circles trying to find best blocks for an external wall to replace a fenceline which will merge with a new workshop to be built from the same - getting muddled info from different builders merchants. I see some nice 'off-white' reasonably smooth ones on some industrial...

    Metal roof trusses ?

Many thanks for replies, very encouraging to feel I'm not alone trying to work it out - your remarks have already helped me understand my requirement better but to explain more, in fact I have both a garage requirement and also a 'lean to the side of the house to a wall' bit of roofing...

    Metal roof trusses ?

Does anyone know any manufacturers of (lightweight) metal roof trusses - I know that wide span, low angle ones are used in a lot of sectional buildings and wide garages. I'm widening my garage and cannot have too high an apex and will be using sheet metal panels. Many thanks

    Lights blowing ?

Many thanks for all replies, very helpful. I shall endeavour to check type and replace with Osram to start with. These should of course all be wired in parallel. Just wondering if the modern low energy bulbs which may have a 'slower start up' would be less likely to surge/blow and last longer...

    Using concrete/building blocks

Many thanks for the reply which is most helpful. As a simple 'lay brickie' I'm not quite understanding the term 'structure pad-stones' - are these stronger ones or hard bricks ? Not planning on rendering, probably painting. Am happy to use the 7n ones all the way up even though they appear to...

    Using concrete/building blocks

Helping a friend build a 14' x 12' workshop at end of garden using concrete building blocks but never used these before in my very modest brickie work in the past ! He will use it to rebuild engines and wants to put a support beam across to use a hoist to lift them. Height of the walls will be...

    Lights blowing ?

I've been asked investigate why some lounge room (only) lights keep blowing. 4 uplighters in the room, every week or so one of the 40W candle bulbs keeps failing - any hints to work out what is going on ? If it's a bulb rather than circuit issue, maybe a change to another type ? Cheers, Joe

    Extending Garage/building advice sought

Hi all, am part-retired now and want to spend more time tinkering with my old motorbikes in the garage - however am fed up with my awful garage of 25 years now (!) - it's brick built, about 8ft wide and 16ft long with a sloping corrugated asbestos replacement roof that slopes from one end at 8ft...
