Mist coat issue... how bad is it?

Nothing. It’s only when it gets caught with something sharp edged like a mirror frame or similar. Some small patches have pulled off from the yellow Frog tape which is supposed to be for freshly painted walls

Mist coat issue... how bad is it?

Hi all, I've recently painted two freshly skimmed rooms in my house. The plaster was left over a week to dry (this was in the really warm weather too) and it was clearly dry before I started painting. The plasterer said to mix matt emulsion 50:50 with water for the mist coat. I used Leyland...

    Screws for roof joist straps

Hi all, I am looking for advice on the best choice/size of screws to attach roof joist straps to thermalite blocks. Another post on here suggested 3"/75mm but only about half of this would actually be embedded into the rawlplug. Is there any benefit of having such a long screw when only the end...

Kerb edge to drip edge detail confusion (EPDM)

It seems as though the trims and corner pieces that come with EPDM kits are only really designed to work with level flat roofs, or those with very small slopes. I think if I want a tidy corner detail piece to cover a big upstand like this it needs to be custom made.

Kerb edge to drip edge detail confusion (EPDM)

Yes, EPDM. The roof length is 6000mm, so the total fall height is min 80mm from high to low.

Kerb edge to drip edge detail confusion (EPDM)

Hi, I am designing my own flat roof for a 6m extension. The two long sides will have kerb edges and the rear edge will be a drip edge into a gutter. Due to the length of the building the upstands on the corners will be around 100mm, this means the kerb trim and the drip trim will not meet in...

Full fill cavity to warm roof insulation detail

Ta. Any thoughts on the noggin questions above too?

Full fill cavity to warm roof insulation detail

Thanks for this. I think the vertical Celotex idea seems better as it uses much less material. How would that be secured in place?

Full fill cavity to warm roof insulation detail

Like this? Would you recommend version 1 (overhang causing an air gap) or version 2 (reduced joist length to remove air gap)?

Full fill cavity to warm roof insulation detail

I can’t picture what you’ve described, do you have (or could you draw) something to explain please?

Full fill cavity to warm roof insulation detail

Would you fit noggins somewhere around the end of the joists to secure the insulation and close off the end of the structure?

Full fill cavity to warm roof insulation detail

Does anyone have a drawing or photo of the join between a brick and block wall with a full fill cavity (100mm wool), connecting to a flat warm roof? I am trying to design the roof for my extension and all I can seem to find are details for cold roof designs and details for parapet roofs. I've...

    Beam and block floor

Hi all, I am going to be laying a block and beam floor and have been told that I need to use a sand and cement mix to lightly cover the blocks after laying. Is this simply like a mortar mixed at 1:1 ratio? The advice was pretty vague so some greater detail would be useful. Thanks

    Trench fill level too high

Well that will be there for sure. But building control have stated 150mm clear below the beams

    Trench fill level too high

You mean lower the floor structure completely? That would mean excavating a metric sh*t ton of earth to allow the 150mm air gap below. Not an option unfortunately.

    Trench fill level too high

Forgot to mention there’s underfloor heating mat. The compound goes on top of that

    Trench fill level too high

Thats just matching the floor level of the existing property. The floor will continue from the existing lounge into a new dining room/kitchen. The floor level finishes mid brick. I didn’t realise that wasn’t normal. The insulation is 75mm with 22mm board on top. There will be self levelling...
