    Sinking Patio

It used to be all concrete patio with a little gully that acted as a drain. There is no connection as such, just an end of a ceramic pipe.

    Sinking Patio

Hi all. This summer just gone, I paid a young lad to slab my rear garden. He said that he had done many gardens and he would have no problem doing mine. He done an "ok" job of it but I was not looking for perfection, just somewhere for my bbq etc. I walked outside this after noon to replace a...

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

Just ordered the one reccomended from advance water company ltd. I went to all my local plumming shops including plumbase, coopers, b&q and screwfix and no one was aware you have to have a compatible heater for strainless tanks. Unreal!

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

It was newly fitted when I bought the house about 6 months ago so I don't know. I'm pretty annoyed the previous plummer who fitted my second one didn't realise though. Ahh well. Now I know! I can't believe screw fix are selling steel tanks without selling a compatible immersion. Thanks to all...

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

Ahh OK! So I've been wasting my money away on the wrong thermostat! Does screw fix or b&q sell the correct one for a stainless tank? Two nights without hot water is kind of a pain!

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

The electrician plugged a gadget into a plug in my kitchen and shorted it out. It tripped the RCD in my fuse box. I think he done it twice. One at 400mv and another alot higher. He measured the time it took to trip and he said it was working fine. 18ms I think. I'm not sure on the material of...

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

Just had an electrician round. He measured from tank to an earth thing you plug in, and he said it was 2ohms, not 20 :( could 2 ohms cause this still?. Just a thought, I'm not sure if I have a steel tank or copper. If its stainless, could that cause a reaction to the copper sleeve? Thanks

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

The last 3 immersion heaters I have had fitted have been titanium ones. I think I have found the problem. This morning I used my multi meter to check the earth in the immersion wiring. There is a circuit between my earthed copper piping and the earth cable, but it is showing a resistance of...

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

I have just found a picture I took earlier off the heater with all the wires still connected and it looks as it is wired correctly (brown directly into thermostat etc). Because my immersion is far away from my consumer unit, how do I use a multimeter? My multimeter leads are quite short. There...

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

I should of checked the polarity before I unwired it, I forgot to look. But, the 3 times I have had it changed, I have had 3 diffrent plummers fit it for me. So I would of thought they would have wired it correctly. Is there any way I can check the earth connection to the consumer unit? Thanks

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

There is an earth cable, and it was correctly wired up before I unwired it. Now, if it actually works thats another question! How can I test the earth? Is that a job for an electrician?

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

Could that be down to a faulty earth connection? I forgot to mention, in the pictures I uploaded I had cleaned the copper sleeve. It was covered in a bluey-greeny crumbly residue when I pulled it from the tank. Thanks

    Corrosion issue in immersion heater

Hi, Im having a bit of an issue with my immersion heater. In the last 4 months, I have gone through 3 immersion heaters (all titanium ones). The sleeve where the thermostat sits in is literally rotting away with a month or so resulting in hot water rising out of the sleeve, into where all the...
