    Firebird overheat stat fault?

When I was bleeding radiators, steam was coming out, not air. Switched boiler off when pressure went over 2.5 as I'd never seen it that high before, usually 2 when up to temp. Pressure Control stat was clicking when knob was turned on warm up but when hot it didn't seem to be doing anything. I...

    Normal system pressure/temp?

When I was bleeding the radiators, the one which traps most of the air had steam coming out, not air and you can't touch the rads & pipes they are so hot. I also noticed the grey foam pipe insulation stuff in the utility room has melted where the pipes come in from the outside (Firebird 2.2 oil...

    Flushing out RDB2.2 Firebird

Here you go. I just replaced the loop like for like. So the tap top left is presumably the boiler side and the tap above the pump is (I assume) mains side because that was where the DCV was originally. But mains comes out of the small black tap which has the loop fitted in the pic but nothing...

    Flushing out RDB2.2 Firebird

Mains water doesn't come out of the DCV or the pipe where the DCV was before I took it off but it does find it's way to the boiler side tap of the loop.

    Flushing out RDB2.2 Firebird

On the filling loop there was a slight leak out of the tap itself on the boiler side tap. I shut off the mains supply and the hot water outlet (for good measure, I suppose wanting to keep that water in the system). Anyway after fitting the new loop, the system isn't repressurising. At first I...

Firebird 2.2 oil fired boiler component?

Wanted to take top of cabinet off for better access. Apart from the self-tappers presumably this bolt needs to be undone, seems to be just turning. Ah it's OK, had enough jiggle space to get the sensor out. Will get some O-rings tomorrow and see if that sorts it

Firebird 2.2 oil fired boiler component?

How does it seal into the connection if I go down that route or what size plug and if doing that can I just make the circuit using the wiring from it?

Firebird 2.2 oil fired boiler component?

What's this on our external Firebird 2.2 oil fired boiler system? May be just a general component but it drips occasionally and I suspect when it isn't, air is being sucked in.

    Shower circuit MCB intermittent tripping

Upstairs electric shower (pretty old looking, small and not sure of the power) stopped working 'a few years ago' so I replaced it with a Triton T80 Easyfit+ 10.5kW from Screwfix. I just used the existing wiring coming out of the wall and all has been well until now. It's mostly the daughter uses...

    ancient Danfoss TRV

Around the house we have those kinda white bell-shaped TRVs with the black ribbed ring you twist which kept 2 fitting lugs withdrawn (before that part of the mechanism stopped working). They look like RAS-D 2910 or 5150 on the internet, what's the difference and is there a newer equivalent that...

    Septic tank T-pipes

The T-pipe from the house to tank 1 has broken off at some point; the one on the outlet from tank 2 is OK. Is there a 5" polypipe adapter we can wedge into the old inlet pipe?

    Celotex vs polystyrene wall insulation

We are battening a solid outer kitchen wall which in the past has had a condensation & mildew problem and as a result has a salting problem. Can we use polystyrene sheet instead of Celotex between battens? When we take the old plaster & render off it will expose the socket wires dropping down...

Loose hammer-in rise & fall gutter brackets

A few of theses have come loose in the middle of a long section, I could probably withdraw them out of the wall if I tried and they move in the wind. What is the proceedure, remove some of the loose ones so gutter is still supported, drill out, fill with mortar, push back in? Will I be able to...
