    Another loft boarding question...

Maybe I should have been clearer! I'm definitely not looking at point loading, I would be using the stilts throughout the area to be boarded at sensible intervals so that weight is distributed evenly. However if raised joists are not that much more expensive and are relatively easy then I'm...

    Another loft boarding question...

Great, thanks for that! Where did you get your stilts? One thing I'm not clear on is your end rafters - I don't really have a similar arrangement. I have joists that run across the ceiling and fix into the actual roof rafters. As I don't have a rafter/joist running at each end to fix into like...

    Another loft boarding question...

Hello, We have just had our 270mm of loft insulation installed as part of the free scheme. I want to board out a small section of the loft for storage but am aware that I can't just compress the insulation down. I know there are lots of threads out there about this but I wanted to ask the...

What size pilot holes do I need to drill?

Hi, I am making a basic cubby unit for my little boys bedroom using MDF I have everything ready but want to make sure I am making the correct size pilot holes to avoid any splitting. I am using "MDF-Tite" screws at 3.9 x 45mm. I am making more than one unit and stacking them on top of each...

Building my own cupboards (a beginner!)

Hi John, Thanks for the tips! Really helpful! Firstly, can I ask what a marra is?! That one's a bit lost on me, I'm assuming you mean a buddy? I certainly will stay clear of the ceiling, but when you say not "at this time" do you mean I'd need to fix to it after the subframe is set...

Building my own cupboards (a beginner!)

I have some experience doing creative but unplanned woodwork, so I'll be fine! I have access to a good chopsaw and a nailgun and have all the light power tools I need. I haven't done anything like this before but I just need a bit of input and I'll sort it pretty easily.

Building my own cupboards (a beginner!)

Hello, Thank you for the quick reply! Thanks for the tip. Thet are to be built in an alcove, well, spanning the whole width of a six footish wide room. If I can't fit two doors it will only be one but I'm more looking for advice about the sub frame, the cupboard space can be worked out...

Building my own cupboards (a beginner!)

I am attempting to build a set of built in cupboards in one of our bedrooms. This really is my very first attempt at something like this but I know I have a common sense for things like angles and weak spots etc. I would just like a bit of guidance and suggestions if anyone has any. So to begin...
