    New Bathroom Layout. Any thoughts?

Many thanks. The joists run top to bottom in the drawing so the waste pipes will run between joists. Hopefully there's enough run/pitch. Sink / basins lol. You know what I mean ;) How do I find the boiler flow rate? Is it always the same for that model if I google it?

    New Bathroom Layout. Any thoughts?

I'm stripping out my recent purchase of a 1960's style house. I'm replacing the whole bathroom on first floor with new everything inc tiling going in. I've had a complete new central heating system installed by British Gas already, with a Worcester combi boiler. This is in a cupboard next to...

Will retro switch work on modern light circuit?

    That doesn't sound safe!!

Will retro switch work on modern light circuit?

Ah good point. Although it's away from water sources and near a radiator, I'm thinking it may be vulnerable to condensation build up from water vapour. There's an RCD on the consumer unit but I'm having doubts over the metal casing too, even if earthed plus RCD. With kids in the house, I can't...

Will retro switch work on modern light circuit?

Many thanks. I've stripped a wall back to bare brick revealing metal conduit containing the lighting wiring. I hoped to simply keep the conduit and feed it into the retro switch, the tarnished conduit being a feature. It is one switch, one light, in a kitchen. Best way to earth it, bearing in...

Extend existing ring or whole new ring?

I took some photos which I'll upload asap. I opened 2 existing sockets and both have 2 red, 2 black and 2 green&yellow.

Extend existing ring or whole new ring?

Thanks guys, I'm going to start the circuit again as it would be mad not to take advantage of the house being empty. I'll do some research on correct laying of cable first and keep all the wiring exposed for the electrician to check before everything gets connected.

Extend existing ring or whole new ring?

Let me start by saying I have zero electrical knowledge so forgive obvious ignorance. Query relates to adding further domestic plug sockets upstairs. Renovating a 1960's house. Bedrooms have 1 or 2 sockets each so need to add more taking 6 to 15. Appears to have had a modern rewire and the...

    sky telephone connection

You can buy a kit that has two plugs (that plug into a normal mains socket). One has a lead to plug into the phone socket as well and this transmits to the other plug(s) turning them into phone sockets! You just plug your Sky phone cable into the spare plug and hey presto. I used this to...

    Bathroom Electric Query

There is absolutely no excuse for someone doing building work not knowing about the Building Regulations. I wonder what else you and the people you have spoken to have done which was illegal. LOL, no more squabbling please  The items are on the shelf in B&Q with no markings...

    Bathroom Electric Query

Hmmm, looks like it's the stable door and horse escaping lol. I don't fancy changing back to pendant and starting again, especially as the ceiling has been plastered and all the hours spent huddled in a cramped and filthy attic wiring etc. What's the best course of post work action to get...

    Bathroom Electric Query

I've removed the pendant light in the bathroom and fitted three Zone 1 spotlights which are low voltage with a transformer. I understand this is 'notifiable'. Who do i notify? Do i get an electrician to check my work and issue a certificate which i supply to Council or do the Council check my...
