Thanks, will try this and let you know what happens. I guess it could well be the adhesive from ceiling tiles, it's certainly something we've never encountered before, and we've done a lot of stuff in our time lol.

Hi, I am trying to paint the dining room ceiling in my 1952 house and it's driving me mad! We removed the woodchip paper with no problems but underneath it the ceiling has been painted with what appears to be dark green gloss paint. I have tried to paint over this, but even after trialling 5...
