Anyone heard of or used the Aqua Bion water softener?

Yeah I know all of those plus points but when I was looking into buying on myself I couldn't justify the purchase cost and yearly maintenance cost for something which has an average 10 year life span :D

Sanitary ware suplliers Northern France / Western Holland

Hi Tony we went there yesterday morning and the build quality on the shower cubicals didn't seem great. The toilets seemed fine so perhaps we might get one there...

Sanitary ware suplliers Northern France / Western Holland

Because I'm a Geordie living in Belgium who has as much knowledge of French plumbers merchants and DIY chains as your average Geordie... i.e. not a lot! Just did and other than the the fact that they sell 'plumbing' their website doesn't tell me much more than that :(

Anyone heard of or used the Aqua Bion water softener?

Why do you want to soften your water? Is it to prevent the build up of lime scale in your pipes to protect against limescale or to protect your appliances? The latter can be dealt with in most instances by anti calc tablets... as for the pipes... will the purchase cost and accumulated running...

OK to put external render over cables?

I'd say that you might want to think about running the cables through some form of conduit or piping as the rendering may damage the outer casing of the cables. Also if there are any problems with the cables, or you need to upgrade or renew them at some point in the future you need to damage...

    asbestos

No doubt about it asbestos isn't nice stuff but if it's in good condition it's often best to leave it in place... as per HSE recommendations. The asbestos content in your floor tiles will have been relatively small and unless the tiles were breaking down the best thing might have been to leave...

    Washing machine/Dishwasher drain

If it was below the trap it would be acting like a vent pipe for the drain... but then you'd get the smells all the time. I'm guessing that the waste from your washer is the type where the washer outlet hose fixes directly to a kind push fitting that stands off the waste pipe? If so the smell...

Temperature range for storing power tools

We moved into our current house last October and I stored my power tools in the old outhouse and the garage... great idea as both were nice and dry. However in the winter both the garage and the outhouse dropped to -10C and I decided to rehouse the tools into the small workshop space at the end...

Damp ? Whats happing to this house?

The only way you can accurately determine the moisture content of a wall is by using a meter. If you are going to pay for the work to be done any reputable company will normally come out and test all of the woodwork and walls in the effected area. I'd suggest tackling this first. As you...

sanding / sand blasting old oak

Just looked at the prices and I think I'd look to hire given the amount of work I have to do on it. Is this because of the risk of staining using a steel brush or is there another reason? Thanks for all the advice on the prep and treatment... all I need to do now is hope that...

sanding / sand blasting old oak

I acquired a couple of nice sized chunks of quite hammered looking old oak which I might use inside or outside... however they are as rough as a badgers and require some TLC. I don't really want to sand them as they will loose a lot of the character but I'm not really sure what the options...

Damp ? Whats happing to this house?

rising damp normally only goes up to 1.2M high (above ground level) by capilary action... anything higher than that and it's most likely another cause i.e. breach of the cavity, leaking downcomer, defective pointing etc... It's difficult to tell from the pics as there is no scale...

Occasionally flooding cellar - Looking for a pump

Don't know if your still looking at this or not but I thought I'd just chip in a few thoughts. If you dig a sump in your cellar it could help solve the problem but before doing that you might want to look at tackling the possible causes...

    Site Transformer question

I think is down to my lack of knowledge on the subject and the relationship between KVA and watts: the KVA was listed in the adverts Okay now I understand the equation: so all I need to do is ensure that I'm covered for the continuous load but obviously if I can pick a transformer with a...

    Site Transformer question

Thanks for all of the replies: some good advice there. I have checked the plate on the drill and the rating is 7.5A and 780W: however all of the ratings for site transformers I have found on line only seem to only detail the amps so I'm not sure how this relates to the power rating on the...
