Dodgy Downlights: Best way to replace?

I give up. Perhaps if people took the time to read the posts I'd made, didn't pick holes in them, and answered the simple questions I asked the thread would be a whole lot more productive, and pleasant to read. Bottom line is that there appears to be two different types of downlights...

Dodgy Downlights: Best way to replace?

Not quite sure what you're getting at here? I was referring to 12v downlights when talking about low voltage. I doubt they'd like a 240v supply feed to them without a transformer in place...... The problem here is that you're trying to be smart, rather than helpful. Had you actually read...

Dodgy Downlights: Best way to replace?

Well I've had another look up in the loft this afternoon and have disconnected three of the downlights and left just the one. Basically all I have now is a single live and neutral feed coming up from a one-way switch. I'm assuming this was to supply the original pendent type lamp that was in the...

Dodgy Downlights: Best way to replace?

Cheers for the reply. My thoughts are to go with low voltage units and use a junction box to supply a feed to individual transformers (one for each Low voltage unit) However not sure if this complies with regs or not?

Dodgy Downlights: Best way to replace?

In the process of refitting our bathroom and decided to replace the existing downlights as they're looking tired. There are three 240v units, with a fourth 240v unit above the current shower that also has a 12v fan unit enclosed. I got a bit of a shock (pardon the pun) when inspecting the...

    Combi loosing pressure

Thanks guys. It is dropping 1/10th of a bar roughly over 24/48 hours, this is a rough estimate as I'm working off the little gauge on the boiler. There has previously been some corrosion on radiator pipes, but I've now changed the offending valves, and although there was a slight leak from one...

    Combi loosing pressure

Hi All, My Combi is loosing pressure very slightly. I filled it so that the gauge read 1 bar earlier after noticing a dip, and now it has dipped again. There are no obvious leaks, but I do have two radiators removed for decorating. Its a Worcester Greenstar 350i. My thoughts are that...

    Rad valves - Sweating?

Well I've got a month until the decorator arrives and the room is put back together with a new radiator also. If in that time it leaks I'll get a plumber out to fit a new bit of pipe etc, as the access hatch is easily accessible right now. I think my central heating insurance covers my pipework...

    Rad valves - Sweating?

I knew John would chime in with that  If it works, it works

    Rad valves - Sweating?

The radiators are actually still off so the water is sitting in the pipes up to the valves. The valves and olives are new, but it's old pipe. I spoke with a mate who used to plumb full time, but now works offshore. His suggestion was to put some ptfe tape around the olive. Frowned upon by some...

    Rad valves - Sweating?

I've fitted four new radiator valves (Myson Petite) and one is appearing to, what can only be described as 'sweating' There's no water runs down the pipe, but around the nut at the base a little water seems to collect. I've given it a few tightens (1/16) of a turn and that initially creates a...

    Joining Engineered Floor

Thanks mate :D I've actually finished it; just waiting on my carpet fitter coming to install a 'Z Bar' between the lounge carpet and the hall where the floor is. I worked out how to stick it together after calming myself down....... It's simple really. I understand it as this: The...

    Joining Engineered Floor

Thanks Mate, Simply cut the first board 'cause I'm an idiot. No in all seriousness I'm not on the ball right now due to illness and should probably leave until the weekend. The main reason for cutting was that the area I'm flooring is short in length; just over the length of the boards. So I...

    Joining Engineered Floor

I've started to take a look at how I'm going to lay out my floor and I'm confused on something. Not hard to be honest :D Basically If I lay board one and cut off 1/3rd at the bottom of this board to start row two I'm then left with a sawn end with no click system to use on row two. I take...

    Best Saw For Engineered Floor

Yep you're right. I can buy a sleeve to change the bore size of the blade but that seems like a pita as well. Luckily my two hand saws seem to be fine enough to do the job. I'm only laying 4m2 so it's no big deal cutting by hand I guess.

    Best Saw For Engineered Floor

Having cut a sample of my new engineered floor it's obvious my general purpose blade on my Evolution mitre saw isn't going to cut it for the floor (pardon the pun) It's leaving a poor finish. Rather than try and source a 210mm 25.4 bore fine blade which seems to be tricky, and expensive, I...

    Telephone extension

Thanks Simon, I have an IDC tool thankfully. I've just tested the SKY engineers extension and that's fine so I'll go ahead and get that wired into the wall plate/box. My cable for the other extension has been run under the floor so just a simple box needed to complete that. Luckily none of my...
