Planer thicknesser for sanding engineered oak floor

Hello, We've bought a used engineered oak floor. It's 20mm thick with about 6mm oak making up the real wood layer. It's in need of a sand so we either fit the floor and then sand it or I was thinking of maybe buying a planer thicknesser and sanding each plank first but never used one. Can you...

Is my kitchen sink waste pipe too high?

Thanks Daniel. I can't quite get my head around how it would work once the traps are connected up as the trap will be so much lower than waste pipe. Do you fit a p trap to both sinks? This is the kit I bought: http://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-double-1-bowl-sink-kit-40mm-white/71787 I'm on a...

Is my kitchen sink waste pipe too high?

Ok thanks, I don't think it will be too tricky as it goes straight outside. While I'm at it, should the P trap be beneath the main bowl or is it ok beneath the 1/2 bowl? Cheers

Is my kitchen sink waste pipe too high?

Hello, We're fitting a new-to-us kitchen at the moment and I'm trying to fit the waste trap for the sink (1 + 1/2 bowl) and I'm stuck when it comes to fitting the trap. I bought a McAlpine trap from Screwfix but when I try to fit it, the u bend is much lower than the current waste pipe that...

Help fixing floor joists and damp in Victorian house

To be honest, I haven't progressed from there yet...except the floorboards in the hall are up with more rotten joist tails. I've been concentrating on clearing everything out and making sure the ventilation is adequate and working first. Then I need to start thinking about sorting the sleeper...

Help fixing floor joists and damp in Victorian house

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm definitely going to fix that part under the window. When we took the plaster off, bits of brick and rubble and old mortar just fell out hence the big holes. We hadn't really thought about insulating under the floor but obviously the best time to do...

Help fixing floor joists and damp in Victorian house

Hello, We bought a Victorian terraced house last year. We knew about problems in the front room with damp and that the floor wasn't level and we're finally getting round to trying to rectify the problems. The bay window was quite damp with salts coming through and soft plaster. What we've...

Which type of mortar for pointing stone?

Thanks for your reply. We're not bothered with replicating it, we'd rather the mortar not to protrude so the water doesn't sit on it and cause problems with the frost. I'd like to do this myself if possible...so do I need to find a lime mortar mix for this? Will normal mortar cause problems...

Which type of mortar for pointing stone?

Hello, I live in a terraced house in Bristol and it has brickwork like this: The pointing is crumbling in quite a few places so we've decided to re-point the front. I've started raking out the old mortar but I was just wondering if I can use the ready mix multi-purpose mortar you can...
