Oil boiler in utility room 'a bit smelly'

After looking at your photos Im amazed your service guy left some clearly overdue-for-replacement braided flexible oil lines that wrongly exit the boiler casing to terminate elsewhere. These can often give off a strong kerosene odour when they are failing normally resulting in a leak. There...

    HRM Wallstar won't start

When you say you press the reset button outside and it fires up for a few minutes, does it actually fire or is it just the fan that spins? The reset button on the control box outside only resets the burner from lock out. Like Burnerman says, these normally have a bleed vent on the top corner...

    Oil central heating, contaminated oil

Apologies, that was a typo on my part, I meant to put part 1 and have edited accordingly. I haven't been reading any OFTEC books for a little while- pretty much since last year when they released all the amendments to them after all the changes to BS5410- they more or less had to re write most...

    Oil central heating, contaminated oil

OFTEC are a trade association first and foremost who, amongst other things also run a competent persons scheme. They do not and have never set regulations as they have no authority to. What they do is collate the regulations set by Bristish Standards and Building Regulations, along with regional...

    Oil Tank Regulations

Your tank may well be sited wrong now and while it doesn't comply to building regs as long as nothing changes it's fine as they aren't retrospective, but as soon as you move it (or fit new) it HAS to comply to the current building regulations (incorporating BS5410 part 2) which are very much...

How many billion to tart up the Houses of Parliament?

It is a horrendous cost but when you factor in the shear inaccessibility of most parts of the building and also remember this is a grade 1 listed monument of significant importance the methods and techniques utilised to repair it isn't like how they throw up the latest carboard cutout housing...

    small oil boiler

I would advise to fit either a Wallstar or a Grant Vortex. Both are very common on my patch and both very reliable. If it's only small building and space is needed the vortex can come in an external model, where the Wallstar is a through the wall boiler but they also have wall hung and floor...

    A Really Ridiculous Statement

Peanuts are not actually nuts they are legumes (pea family) therefore it's a perfectly reasonable warning to advise that the packet may have traces of nuts in there. Although quite why a packet of something-that-isn't-a-nut should have nut-traces in it is beyond me :?:

    Danfoss BFP 41 L 3 Pump problems

Sorry not been on here for ages and only just seen this. I had an email sent to me from Danfoss but there was also a short article on it in the last 'oil installer' magazine I noticed.

Myson Velaire Oil Boiler Lock Out

Sounds like Classic Danfoss solenoid coil fault. Oh, and your pressure gauge doesn't fit between the pump and the burner so don't worry about getting any fittings for it.

    Danfoss BFP 41 L 3 Pump problems

To be honest, you need to adjust the pressure down to where it should be BEFORE it gets to the point of sooting - prevention is better than cure and all that. If in doubt switch boiler off until you get that gauge. I'm not entirely sure but I don't think there would be any problems if this pump...

    Danfoss BFP 41 L 3 Pump problems

I must say, our first thought was they are doing 'a Riello' on us, at least there are other manufacturers we can use if things do get bad, Delta etc, not like the Riellos where we were stuck with one make until they got their act together.

    Danfoss BFP 41 L 3 Pump problems

Be aware that Danfoss are having localised problems with these pumps failing at the moment, we have sent several back this year and replaced three under warrantee this week alone. Danfoss have issued a press release regarding this at their findings so far so are trying to solve the issue. Ps...

what form of heating? (have oil)

Oil may be a dearer initial outlay but will out last any gas boiler by a long way, you also won't be tied to any one supplier so can shop around for the best deal every time. LPG is very dear to run central heating and with a tank rental tied to a gas supplier you are in their hands with...

Worcester Danesmoor 20/25 Intermittent lock out

Seeing as you have already replaced the control box the first thing I would try is the photocell. Inexpensive part that does sometimes give a longer than normal purge phase.
