    Drain pipe

Hi I have a first floor flat. I’ve got a CW pipe that runs from the bath feed, out the wall, and down 12ft to garden level, where it’s connected to a garden tap. I fitted a shut off valve and a drain valve inside the flat. My plan was to shut off the tap every winter to stop it freezing...

    New heating control not connecting

Hi Thanks for the responses. That makes sense. I’ve fitted a few of these over the years and each time I’ve had to remove a little wire/bridge on the boiler. So, I take it I should be using the terminals marked 24V? Daljit

    New heating control not connecting

Hi I have a Glowworm Energy(7) 30C and tried fitting a Drayton prog thermostat but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything! The boiler’s manual shows it’s pretty straightforward to connect a battery operated wired thermostat - just connect two wires to the eBus terminals. I’ve done this but the...

    Disconnecting CU supply (photos)

    - No load on the supply - thick gloves - get a good grip - stand behind cupboard wall …and pull. Tape cardboard over exposed area before starting job. cheers

    Disconnecting CU supply (photos)

Hi all I appreciate the words of caution, I really do. I’ve seen these fuses in the stairwell of tenement flats, and aware electricians remove them to cut supply to specific flats. I imagined them to be similar to the old style fuses, which although exposed to hell, seemed pretty safe to work...

    Stud dimensions 15mm fire line

Hi Erecting a small internal wall (8ft x 5ft) with doorway and plan to use 15mm fire line on each side of studs. Door frame is to be 100mm to tie with existing. Was aiming to use C16 grade but not sure what size? Ideally, I’d have 47mmx68mm as that leave couple of mills for skimming either...

    Siemens fridge freezer - fan?

Just found out fan works when both door switches are activated. Anyway, will reassemble and see if it works even tho I’ve not done anything to it other than clean a little.

    Siemens fridge freezer - fan?

Hi Siemens KG30NVW25G fridge freezer is cooling the freezer, not the fridge, which sits above. I’ve removed inner rear panels and there doesn’t seem to be any obstruction to the shaft leading from the cooling pipes in the top part of the freezer to the fridge. It’s now been defrosted. When I...

    New bathroom light

Hi I’ve read guidance about zones in bathroom. just want to check before proceeding. Am I allowed to use a standard light (ceiling rose, cable, bayonet fitting) in my bathroom if the bulb is at a height of 2.5m? Ceiling rose at 3m. The light would be positioned above one end of the bath. I...

    Trad wooden baton, external corner

Thanks for that link Ken. A quirked staff bead - who woulda thought! Ive not been able to open all the photos on that thread (on my phone) but it seems the OP opted to mould the corners out of plaster, rather than stick with wooden beads. Other posters suggested quirk created by channeling out...

    Trad wooden baton, external corner

Ken, thanks for the response. Hopefully photo uploaded this time. Yes, the wall’s been repaired over the years with polyfiller and like. I’m thinking I’ll need to chip away old plaster/polyfiller before skimming otherwise skim at corner would sit proud of the baton? yip, I know the corner...

    Trad wooden baton, external corner

Hi I’m renovating a traditional tenement and looking for advice how to re-plaster an external corner, which had a rounded wooden baton running vertically. See photo. I’d like to keep this baton if I can, skimming the walls on either side. However unsure how to do this. I like the rounded...

    New bathroom pipe run

I was thinking of connecting pan to the branch of a 110mm tee, running pipe along the floor and outside. Then, using below, connect 40mm pipe from bath to the tee...

    New bathroom pipe run

Hi I’m installing a new bathroom in a 4ft x 10ft space, with window and two existing outlets beneath it at one end. Outlet 1 was connected to a basin and is 18” above suspended timber floor, leads outside to a cast iron stack. Outlet 2 was connected to a bath and runs from above floor level...

    Capping cast iron soil stack

Sorry, yes photo is lying on its side! The knuckle with white plastic leads to the pan, black pipe runs vertically through the tenement. I’d love to angle grind but unlikely to get round the back. Flex seal cap looks an option - I’ll ask merchant what plugs they have.
