I do not know much about computers so bios is new to me. I am very ignerant with computer. The operating system is windows and I believe a 98 or 200 version. Don't know how to check it. I discovered that the disk was just too scratched up to read. Booted up once I removed the disk from the...

Booting issue solved but other still there

O.k., still had the game cd in the drive. removed the cd and restarted the computer and it booted up correctly. It is still not reading cd's though. I know it is somewhat since it would not boot with the game cd in. Since this is a donated computer, I do not have any of the boot disks or...

I have recently had a compaq desktop EN donated to my classroom. I attempted to install a game from cd onto the computer but it tells me that no disk inserted. Now I have another problem. I turn on the computer and all I get now is the Compaq screen then blank. Windows is not booting now. Can...

    Laying Carpet on Laminate

I would have to agree with the company. They do not want to have to spend extra money if something is damaged. They also want to make sure the quality of their work is good. One thing that you could do is remove the flooring in the open area's and under the toilet which would not bee to...

Engineered boards - click fit - getting the last bit in?

You are thinking right. Being up against a wall with that last board means it won't have that much traffic on it. Trimming the edge should give you the clearence you need to get that board into place. If the gap it too lare and it is not in a noticable place, like against a wall, you gan alway...

    3-way switch w/2 hot wires??

the first thing that I would check is the switch that you removed, if you still have it. Look at the metal on the old switch. Some have a small metal tab that you can remove with a pair of pliers which allows the current to stop at the switch. Compare it to the new one and see if that is the...

2 lights 2 switches one power supply

you just need a constant suply of power. Many circuits in a line can have more than one switch operating more than one light like you want. Stop by you local home improvement stor and pick up a book on wiring. The $15 you spend will be a lot cheaper then the time you spend trying to figure it...

rat damage - how to fix?

Nice pics. You are on the right track already. I would suggest replacing/splicing. It is better to have new wires instead of compromised ones. You do not know if there is damage to the wires that isn't seen. I am on the East coast and for a job like that you are looking at about a 2 hour minimum...

    dimmer switch - help!

The wires, black white and bare are your standard household wires. It sound to me that you have your wires crossed. One set chould be for one room while the other set is for the bathroom. If you can figure out which set goes to which you should be able to correct the problem.

Wonky door frame, impossible to repair?

I have run into the same issues when replacing doors. One process, the one that requires the least amount of work is to chisel or cut the low side of the frame. make it even by removing the low side then you can shim and play with the trim to cover any gaps. Don't know if it will work for you.

    Boiler Pilot Light

Hey all, This is a question for a friend of mine. They ran out of oil, had it refilled, but the pilot light is not on now. It is a Honeywell system with a Beckett AFG Burner I believe. I pressed the reset button which ran the boiler for about a minute and a half then tripped it again. Pressure...
