Advice on replacing old manual thermostat with digital progr

Dan, why are you referring to me as a numptie, I simply tried to offer the poster advice on a room thermostat type, the poster revealed the fact that he wanted a night setback temperature after my posting, from there of course, a programmable thermostat was the way to go.

Heatline B24 not condensing is the condensing unit defective

Good then you have probably seen inside one, can you expand on what is inside, is it simply 3 loops of 15mm pipe with fins around, or something more elaborate?

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

That is good news. I agree, with the HW circulating there was enough suction on the return to the boiler to create some movement in the air lock, but not enough to expel it. It is very rewarding when you get success from your efforts!

Why do I have ONE radiator not working? Pease help.

Dave, Could just be a bit of an air lock, try turning off all the other radiators to push the air through, when it gets hot turn the others back on.

Heatline B24 not condensing is the condensing unit defective

Done some research and B24 is the same under the bonnet as C24 and Vizo 24. Somebody must have taken one of these condensing units apart, or replaced one surely?

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

At this point can you determine why the boiler stopped, is it the boiler control stat satisfied?

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

With that information it is probably a hydrolic problem. Is the pump in the right way round, flowing away from boiler. Was the system flushed till clean when you drained the system. If so how bad was it. Was each radiator flushed through in turn by turning all other radiators off except for...

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

Before we go any further, when did this problem first happen, and was it gradual (where you are unable to give an acurate timescale). And do you have a voltmeter.

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

Did you start your trial with just CH selected on programmer? and what model boiler is it?

Advice on replacing old manual thermostat with digital progr

Dan read the posts before you reply, we are talking about the cm927 which is around £100. I do not deal in twaddle!

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

OK, so I can assume that one of the valves turns of flow to hot water cylinder and the other the radiators, on call for CH from the time programmer the live wire goes to the room thermostat, if this is turned up above the room temperature, you should hear the radiator valve open, which in turn...

Advice on replacing old manual thermostat with digital progr

But if you read the post he only needs to replace a thermostat, a time programmer is not required, there is no benefit in the poster having two time programmers. An electronic thermostat is around £10 this programmer/thermostat unit is nearly £100.

    Boiler problem

Did you check that the boiler and pump were being activated when you checked the valve was operating in hot water and central heating positions?

Heating Problem - Potterton Boiler - Micro Bore System

If this is a system utilising a mid position valve sharing hot water and central heating, symptoms you describe point to the auxillary switch on the valve not operating (which switch on boiler and pump) on call for central heating. They are prone to sticking, if you operate it manually a few...

Advice on replacing old manual thermostat with digital progr

If you currently have a time programmer, there will be little scope for energy savings with a programmable room thermostat, but if you replace with an new electronic thermostat the operating differential will be smaller and give you more acurate control at the room setpoint setting, over a...

    Boiler temperature control

No need to worry, the boiler will shut down with a high temp alarm if it is exceeded, but if you have not added inhibitor to the system in the last 5 years, would recommend flushing the system clean and adding some. Also you should try operating you boiler at the lowest temperature possible...

Heatline B24 not condensing is the condensing unit defective

I am now retired, therefore not registered. That is not true, you have to be Gas Safe registered to carry out work on gas appliances and installation for reward, and have to be suitably qualified to apply. Therefore you can be competent to work with gas, but may have changed career or retired.

Heatline B24 not condensing is the condensing unit defective

@Moderator 7 Is this pointed at me. I am simply requesting forum knowledge on failure of condensing units in these boilers, as I have never seen inside one and am assuming it is a simple air to liquid hex, with 15mm pipe loops and heat transfer fins, I am trying to make contact with...

Heatline B24 not condensing is the condensing unit defective

Thanks ptp, Boiler pressure is 12mb, max output has been reduced to suit system load via potentiometer P4. Boiler flow temp is at the setpoint set on temperature setting with delta t of roughly 20 degrees C, i.e flow 50 return 30.

Heatline B24 not condensing is the condensing unit defective

Thanks for your reply ianmcd. It could be one of the same, I no that it also appears as a Visio 24 which has a time programmer. The B24 was sold under the Hydroline brand, B&Q were a large supplier.
