Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

Sorry, you are right. I forgot about your post, been that many of them. As an I.T. engineer, 80% of the work being software, network (mostly software support). Hardware side, I, like many engineers, carry a phillips screwdriver and one or two basic tools. Most things are not repairable, just...

Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

thanks for your reply. I take your point regarding some on here. I could tell by a couple of answers that some were not RGI., though I was surprised that no one said, 'just change the solenoid head as this is the only electrical part on the valve' or 'listen close to the solenoid when you...

Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

I appreciate your comments. I am a DIYer. Actually work as a I.T. engineer. Anyway, that said, as I my previous posts said, I fitted one of these 10/15 years ago but it died about 2 weeks ago. Fitted the new one which fired up, but after 20 seconds cut out. The solenoid has a black top which is...

Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

A retired gas fitted friend came out, did an electrical check and said it was the solenoid. For the record, power was going to it, but there was no clicking on or off. He stated what a few here have stated and that was that he has never seen a Honeywell valve with a 240 volt solenoid head and a...

I have uploaded a photo showing the 240 volt black terminal and the barcode label on the old one showing the 24volt which is the same as the new one

If it had been sent out with 24volt on the terminals or it was blue, I would have sent it right back. The connection block is black meaning 240volt and actually has 240 volt stamped on the side. The valve that came off the boiler was exactly the same, 240volt on the connection block. The...

Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

I went to the link that you sent and can see the valve that came with the boiler originally is supposed to be 220/240volt. Shortly after I moved in the house, a 24volt was fitted by a gas fitter. When that died 10 years or so later, I replaced it with like for like (24volt) and got a gas fitter...

GC41 409 and I can't make the rest out Everybody's help and input is much very much appreciated. I have to go to sleep. Just looked in the mirror and I look like the walking dead and my eyes look like organ stops!

I hasten to add that the gas valve is exactly the same model as the old one - 240volt on the connector block and on the barcode label 24 volt - see pic in my folder named 'ideal gas boiler valve'

The valve has the usual Honeywell barcode sticker on it which gives the model, spec., etc. On that same lable it says 24volt. On the part where the leads connect to the valve it has 220/240volt. This problem started when the old valve was on connected to the boiler. I remember turning the...

the gas valve isn't coloured, it's all alloy. The only plastic part of it is where the spade end connectors are located and that's black.

Just had a thought, there is what appears to be a large capacitor in the thermostat case. The wires go to the connectors on the valve. Its about 4cm x 13mm in dia. Could that have anything to do with it?

Thank you everyone for your respinses, sorry, responses (had a drink or two). This has got me totally baffled. I replaced this years ago, so it was a simple swap. I am hoping that it is a duff valve, I don't see what else it could be given the fact that there is nothing else in it. These...

Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

No, I checked that. Although the valve is a 24 volt, the transformer is inside as on the outside is stamped near the connectors 240 volt. This was wired up the same way as the valve that came off, i.e. 240volt, but reduced inside to 24volt and that one had worked pefectly for the past...

No, didn't use a meter, but there is power there. Power connector is straight from the wall and plugs into a standard 3 pin connector (the type used on a PC PSU). Checked with a neon tester and there was power from the wall, from the back of the socket where the thermostat is and on to the 240...

Ideal ConcordeWCF-255A - not firing up

Hi Steve32, Voltage is 240, valve is 24volt exactly the same as the one that came out. In fact, I'm beginning to wonder whether the valve is damaged coz the box it arrived in was only about an inch deeper than the valve with a couple of small pieces of bubble wrap. The box is damaged on...

RGI can't come out until after the holiday, well, he can, but I nearly fell through the tiled floor when he gave me the price. That aside, I fitted the last gas valve which has worked faithfully all these years. The new one, although it appeared new, I have just looked at the packaging, it...

Desperate for advice. Have had this Ideal boiler for a long time. About 10 years ago, the gas valve was replaced. Last week, the boiler went off, but the pilot light stayed on. After speaking to a gas fitter, he confirmed my suspicions, the gas valve. All electrics are ok, thermostat is ok...
