    Removing old Telewest cable

Cut the cable inside the junction box so you can make it look tidy. Just don't cut the coax only the phone line.

    Removing old Telewest cable

I'd remove it all the way back to the external junction box. Especially if it'll improve the aesthetic of the house

    Removing old Telewest cable

Just remove them both and forget about it. Neither sockets are in use. I should imagine the BT one will not be live if it hasn't been used for years (the pairs have probably been long reused to service other customers) The VM one will never be reused as they are moving to VoIP. If you ever got...

    Removing old Telewest cable

Cut the cable in the external junction box and remove the rest. I have done this for customers plenty of times. Like you said, VM are moving to VoIP based services anyway. I would do the same with the BT line, even if you ever returned to a BT line, you would probably need an engineer visit if...

    BMS supply

On all the BMS panels I work on, the supply for the BMS and a 'computer' socket comes from the live side of the MCP isolator with suitable warnings. BMS panel always remains on with doors open so alarms can still be sent to the headend. (Gas solenoid, fire alarm etc)

Earthing new power shower to cold water pipe?

Surely the easiest way to resolve this would be some self adhesive trunking straight up from the shower and the replace with a suitable cable? Also, is that circuit fused appropriately for the shower?

TV Ariel - no plug - wire looks odd

That's either telephone or an old Rediffusion cable.

    Connect BT Dropwire to CW1308

I would be asking your provider to request that OR replace it from the DP with a complete new run of CW1308. I have managed to get this done quite easily recently due to customers having broadband issues. Aerial Wire No. 1 (I believe it was called) is not twisted so can cause issues with...

what is the truth about smart meters, no BS

The WAN connection is GPRS via GSM. Its the equivilent of having a mobile phone in the meter cupboard. The HAN connection is 2.4GHz 802.11g. Again, the equivilent of having a wireless access point in the meter cupboard. I guarantee that she was already basking in plenty of RF transmissions...

    Two meters down to one

I would have thought that there were 2 companies involved in that changeover. WPD would have done the cutout, and another company (Haste normally around here) would have moved and reconnected the meter to the cut out, installed the isolator and reconnected the CU A mate of mine works on UG...

    Sky HD magic eye

Connect the magic eye directly to the back of the box. Try the remote with the eye at the back of the box so the box receiver doesn't pick up the remote

    Sky HD magic eye

Actually, before all that malarky I wrote before, check that it's actually plugged into RF2 on the sky box! Probably knocked it out plugging/unplugging something else and put it back in RF1. The eyes will always be lit if its a powered amp regardless of the source connection. Also, if...

    Sky HD magic eye

I take it it's a powered splitter/amp? Sounds like the internal DC bypass has gone and not sending back the control signals to the uplink. Bypass the amp temporarily and connect one tv directly to the rf2 and test

    Terminating SWA in Meter Box?

I just had WPD come and do a service renewal for me at a property I was renovating for a friend. The old overheads had no insulation left where they were attached to the walls. Anyway, they installed a new meter box with cutout on the outside of the property. Then Haste came to do the...
