Thanks Alastair. It's hard to see in the pictures, as it is painted over, but the step is made of brick. Maybe that end piece on the right is sandstone? If I get all the paint and nasty bits back to a brick/sandstone surface, what could I use to resurface with?

Hello, I intend to paint my picnic table and I would like to use the wax-enriched water based shed paint on it. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use this type of paint on a picnic table? Any help much appreciated. Thanks
