    Efficient heating/water for 1 person.

Thanks Tony. So you think a water cylinder, heated off peak, even if wasting a lot of the hot water, would end up costing less than using instant water heating (electric shower etc) which just heats the amount of water I need?

    Efficient heating/water for 1 person.

Yea pretty much 24/7, sorry should have said. The wood/coal stove isn't ideal, but I figure I'll only use it when I need it. But yes I might well end up having to rely on a different type of heating more than I'd like - unsure about that. Luckily I wont have to do most of the hard work with the...

    Efficient heating/water for 1 person.

I'm in the process of renovating a small barn and I'm trying to work out the most efficient heating and hot water system. It will be just me living in the barn, and only 2 rooms (bedroom/living room) will need comfortable levels of heating, as I'm disabled and need everything close together...

Are you allowed to fit a multifuel burner below a low roof?

Yes, the metal chimney will be accepted ok (it just needs to be a certain height above the roof to pass planning I think). I was more worried if there might have been some guideline I didn't know about, restricting having a woodburner so close below the roof, due to fire hazard or something...

Are you allowed to fit a multifuel burner below a low roof?

Thanks Corgigrouch. I did think it would probably be fine, but I am running into all sorts of strange planning restrictions for rather random issues: like being told I have to have stained brown, softwood window frames (when the existing windows for the last 25years have been hardwood painted...

Are you allowed to fit a multifuel burner below a low roof?

I'm in the process of converting an old Barn into an upstairs flat, and would very much like to fit a wood burner or coal burner/stove (not an open fire), but the roof clearance right against the walls is only 180cm. While there is plenty of space to fit a small wood burner and chimney, I...

Slates on a 10° pitch roof?

Well it is just a temporary structure (I just want some dry storage that will last 2-3years), and trying to find a good builder as well as a good roofer is more work and more money + any logistical issues that arise between them - which to me is not worth it for a small job. Also my builder...

Slates on a 10° pitch roof?

Thanks for the replies and the welcome! My builder has noticed it himself now that the posts are up(I think he needed to actually see it to realise!) and is probably going to be able to get it to 15° pitch which is good.

Slates on a 10° pitch roof?

I'm building a temporary storage shed and since I have quite a lot of old spare slates lying around, my builder/roofer said he could use those for the roof with a single felt lining, despite it being only a 10° pitch. Everything I've read seems to imply that a slate roof below 20° is a bad...
