    Garage Conversion Regs

Hi All, We have a sizable double garage and Im thinking of converting one half into an office. My current plan is to do this with zero structural change to the garage*. Ill basically will be putting in insulation (it's a single brick building), plasterboard, and nothing else, it already has...

How do you know if your cavity wall insulation needs replacing?

Our house has never been warm. I know it has cavity wall insulation as I've come across it while drilling holes and having a wood burner installed a few years back. But how good is what we have I just don't know. There could be voids around the house, I simply don't know. And what is in the wall...

Electric and Gas meter box replacement confusion

Sadly that won't work for us - we are looking to take advantage of a reduced night time tariff which we need a smart meter for. So really the boxes need a total replacement (as they are metal)

Electric and Gas meter box replacement confusion

Our Gas and Electic meter boxes are in a bit of a state and need replacing. In addition to this, we had an engineer visit a while back to install a smart meter and couldn't as our boxes are metal. my confusion lies in who to talk to with regards to getting them replaced - is this a simple...

Insulating a garage - turn it into a simple office space - assume I'm an idiot

Okay, Im not a total idiot but still... I have a large double garage which already has a partition down the middle - other than that is single brick, concrete floor construction with two single-glazed windows. Building a stud wall/adding buttons to the walls is a piece of cake. Where I'm a...

Insulating a garage - not for heat, but to keep humidity down

I have a double garage which is actually divided in two. One side is already insulated, the other side is not The side that’s not insulated is storing wood that’s used for my wife’s business and needs to be kept dry, currently we have a humidifier running more or less 24/7 which is not ideal...

Doubling up insulation board? Good or bad idea

Long story short,,…we have a loft conversion (came with the house when we brought it) with loft space that runs along the side, these are small spaces but I have access. There are 3 sections, more like crawl spaces but each about 12ft long. In these crawl spaces we have a single layer of...

    Carpet Advice - Buying online

Hi All, We have two rooms, roughly 55m2. I've had a couple of quotes, one slightly above 2k and the other just under, both from well-known carpet supplies. Obviously £2k is a lot of money and if that's the cost it's going to be that's the cost it's going to. But at that cost Id be a fool not...

Hi all, Let me just say improbably, almost definitely going to get a plumber in for this... So, our Grohe (low pressure/pumped) shower unit has gone pop, it's old, and Grohe no longer supports it. So time to buy another. we were thinking of this one - Mira Platinum Valve & Controller...

Random questions about a conservatory I own.

So, I have a rental property with an old and slowly deteriorating (wood) conservatory. Ive had a quote to replace all the wood with pvc and pop on a new roof - £6100 This is out of my budget unfortunately, and seeing as its a rental its not essential to have the conservatory anyway, its just a...

    Coving and a uneven ceiling.

So - I have about 31 meters of coving to install, most of it is in fairly small sections - 3 meters here, .5 meters there. But two walls, one 5 and another 7 meters long have a bit of a dip in the ceiling. Whats the best plan of action here, any advice would be appreciated?!

Looking for some advice - what can I and can I not do?

Hi All, I have a garage which due to a bunch of boring reasons has been wired by an idiot, and most of the wiring his hidden behind plasterboard. My garage is split into two (just a partition wall down the middle), but both sides include 3 overhead lights, and 5 plug sockets.....although I...

Brick filling falling out of I-beam . . .Can anyone help me out - in a bit of a pickle!

Yeah, its quite dark I think, makes it had to see whats going on. Heres a basic diagram, hopefully this might help. Brown is brick, red is the metal beam, and blue the ceiling. The bricks that I pulled out where just cemented onto the gap in the beam (see green). Im 99% sure they are doing...

Brick filling falling out of I-beam . . .Can anyone help me out - in a bit of a pickle!

The brickwork is sound I think - What I was talking about was a row of half bricks that had been cemented into the "H" of the beam. Its not structural in anyway, it was simply filler to give something to plaster over. Maybe Im misunderstanding though...
