Another Hive installation post - sorry

Much appreciated just nice to have someone to bounce my logic off, to confirm my thinking :)

Another Hive installation post - sorry

Here are the pictures of the thermostat and junction box. On the room thermostat they seem to have used the grey wire as a Neutral covered with blue tape. The black is the switched live I assume. So tracing these back to the junction box (entering bottom left) remove those three to isolate the...

Another Hive installation post - sorry

I have purchased a single channel Hive unit for my Vaillant Combi. I already have the hub from my previous house. Just to confirm from this post and my pic attached of the existing Honeywell ST9100A unit, that I will need to insert a link between L and Common (currently 1) and move the switched...

Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

Nope Cambridge the cycling city of the UK. Given some people spend much more than that every year on petrol whereas I use my bicycle every day, finding £200 a year is pretty easy :) As this post has now lost all sense of perspective I guess with that reply I am done! Jerry

Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

Yes but I am guessing you do your own servicing and repairs :) I think it is advisable at least to get your boiler serviced every year so there is a min of £100/year :) Given that, on average it has cost me £200 each year. Jerry

Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

Well I wasn't really going to bother replying any more, but what the hell, everyone wants to win an Internet forum argument and I have a little time on my hands ;) Ok I have lived in my house for 12 years and had a service contract with BG the whole time. I guess over that time I have...

Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

Lol ok. Clearly all the other engineers that have quoted want to fleece me in equal measure then ;) My system was installed in 1994 so I think I have got my money's worth :) Regards Jerry

Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

I have just had the final quote of four to install a new Combi in the roof space. The quote was well detailed and came out at £100 more than the BG one for the same boiler. Despite all this I have actually gone with BG to power flushing my existing system, install a few new/replaced radiators...

Wireless Thermostat for Traditional Heating System

The existing controller unit allows independent control of both HW and CH. So the HW will be left as is and the CH moved to constant/wired so it is on all the time. I am pretty sure in the next couple of years I will need a new boiler so the powerflush and magna clean will set me up for that...

Wireless Thermostat for Traditional Heating System

Thanks for the reply D_Hailsham. Most the problems with failed receivers seems to be the Drayton units with loads of "fixes" for them being sold on ebay. I am tempted to try one of the Salus RT500RF units...

Wireless Thermostat for Traditional Heating System

Anyone got any other recommendations or is the CMT927 the best of breed ? It does seem that all of these units suffer with failed receivers after about three years or so :( Jerry

    Sainsburys and British gas offer

As per this post I have found that BG seem to be getting more competitive. //www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/are-bg-quotes-getting-more-competitive.370124/ This was a system to move and replace my existing back boiler with a combi condenser. Regards Jerry

Wireless Thermostat for Traditional Heating System

Ah I think I found it as shown in the instructions section 4 Burner (Direct Control) So, Yellow to B and then add a jumper from one of the L's to A :) Are these the best units or would others recommend a different one ? This has week/weekend program is quite a bit cheaper...

Wireless Thermostat for Traditional Heating System

Ok I opened it up and took the unit off the wall. Four wires coming out. Red, Blue & Yellow and a bare wire earthing the back plate. So Red (live) pin 3, Blue (Neutral) pin 4 and Yellow ? pin 1. Also a couple of thinner white wires but they all run internally. So when...

Wireless Thermostat for Traditional Heating System

Thanks. I pretty much only leave the bath room radiator on all the time but the rest of the bedrooms are left at frost protect so only the radiators down stairs get used. None of the radiators down stairs have TVRs. I am happy wiring the the receiver myself. I guess I need to take the...

Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

Guys its not a whole system just a powerflush + magnabooster + replace one radiator + add another new radiator. I have had three quotes now for a complete system i.e New boiler (Vaillant or Worcester), power flush, magnaboost and change one radiator and add one more. This invloves MOVING the...
