Nest install seems okay but not convinced it's working!

If thermostat is connected to T1/T2 it'll communicate over these cables. If USB power it'll use wireless. Don't know what would happen in these circumstances as I don't imagine Nest ever considered the situation...

Nest install seems okay but not convinced it's working!

You can't - shouldn't - do that. The Nest T1/T2 terminals are not designed to be paralleled with another Heatlink. I'm surprised that it worked at all, frankly, and you're lucky you haven't broken the Heatlinks / thermostats, or both. T1 and T2 provide power and communications to the...

    Kidde FireX false alarms

Yeah, it was flashing a red light when I got home. Think I've found the problem - superficially it looked OK but after I unclipped the cover to expose the board I discovered a family of tiny spiders hidden out of sight. They've now been evicted from their home with the help of an air...

    Kidde FireX false alarms

Has anyone experienced false alarms with the Kidde FireX range? It's an KF20 with battery backup, and triggered all the alarms last night (interconnected system). I wasn't in but apparently, it drove my neighbours insane... Weather wise, it was fairly humid last night but not desperately so...

Calling all Opentherm gurus, question ? Max CH flow temp

Set it to 80. The whole point of Opentherm is that it can regulate the flow temperature for best efficiency, so if 80C is judged to be more efficient, it'll use it. It's a gas burner. Running it flat out won't do it any harm at all.

4 core flex to 3 pin plug?

If it's one of the posher Dimplex heaters the black wire is for external controls, not another neutral... DO NOT CONNECT THE BLACK WIRE TO EARTH The heater you've got is not designed to be wired into a plug. Doesn't mean it won't work, though, but as Dimplex say you're on your own with regard...

Is it possible the pump is (has always been?) the wrong way round?

3rd gen Nest Hot Water on Greenstar 30CDi

Ah, do you have one of the integrated programmer things installed in the boiler? It uses Worcester's proprietary low voltage control so I imagine you can just unclip it from the panel and the boiler will revert to standard volt free control. At that point the only thing you can do is turn off...

3rd gen Nest Hot Water on Greenstar 30CDi

You have a combi boiler - you don't have any external control over the hot water and when the Nest is installed those terminals will be left empty. During the setup the Nest asks you what kind of hot water setup you have, and you'll pick "Combi". The frost thermostat has nothing to do with...

    Honeywell evohome

Think you might be able to double-bind an HR92 by faffing around with the sensor/actuator pairing on the controller (ie, pair the sensor to one zone and the actuator to another. Or vice-versa). Evohome binding gives me a headache at the best of times. It's possible to exploit the lack of...

    Honeywell evohome

Sounds like the HR92 is bound to two zones. Clear the binding from the HR92 that's misbehaving and pair it again with the evohome controller. If in doubt, delete all the zones and start again after clearing the binding on everything. TheEvohomeShop has a good guide on doing this, as the...

    Installing a NEST GEN 3

If you're struggling to understand the wiring diagram for your existing programmer, the answer is probably no. Sorry. Installing Evohome is step above bunging a Nest on the wall. Get a personal recommendation from Dan (if he's not close to you) or Richard at The Evohome Shop and they'll put...

    Dizzy gas

Would seem prudent that the agent calls the gas emergency services first thing tomorrow and meets them with the keys. Irresponsible to leave somewhere that "stinks of gas" without doing anything.

Water meter and combi boiler back pressure

Where are you measuring your water pressure? If there's a double-check valve between your pressure gauge and the system you won't get accurate results (except for the very first measurement).

Ecotec 637 Plus always "on"/showing heat demand

Just personal opinion but I'd suggest replacing the valve head. Once the microswitch sticks once, it'll stick again.

    Condensate pipe into bucket...

The frustrating thing is that the pipe goes down through the kitchen (bypassing the sink which even has a spare connector on it to take a waste pipe), then into the garage - about six feet from the main soil pipe for the house. It's neatly tacked to the wall; it's the fact it drains into a big...

    Condensate pipe into bucket...

A house I'm looking at buying has the condensate pipe from the boiler (Bosch Greenstar something-or-other combi) running down into the garage, and then into a bucket. It wouldn't be impossible to have it drain correctly - not least because it's in the kitchen and I'm a bit puzzled that they...
