    Thermostat wiring

Yes battery operated. The existing thermostat is years old and is one of only two ancient parts in an otherwise new system. The other old part being an old Drayton flowshare 3 port valve. The motor on which I've replaced several times over the years. I'll probably replace that too, next time...

    Thermostat wiring

Hi guys, My 15 or so year old room thermostat has become unreliable and I've decided to update it with a digital one. I've recently had the boiler replaced and have just replaced / upgraded most of the rads. Whilst the new (cheap) 'cect' branded thermostat has yet to arrive, I've studied...

    Vaillant ecotec plus boiler

Yeah they spoke English but explained it all to the wife. I therefore had to try and make sense of her relaying the instructions when I got back from work .....to very limited avail! Thanks for the advice, will see how it goes.

    Vaillant ecotec plus boiler

Thanks, sounds like somewhere around 65-70 then. Will stick it on 65 and see how it goes.. Was advised to disregard the top (hot water) dial as suggested and have done so far. Thanks again.

    Vaillant ecotec plus boiler

Guys, Recently had a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 418 installed. Can anyone recommend a temperature to set the heating to on the boiler controls. It allows for temperatures up to 75 degrees. I used to run my old baxi solo at the highest setting. I also have a couple of rads that are probably...

    DIY decking oil

Hi, My deck could do with an oil, in the past I've used cuprinol or ronseal clear oil, both very good. Trouble is both are expensive and to be honest money is a little tight at present. I was thinking about making my own. A friend suggested boiled linseed oil thinned with white spirits...

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

After the first few times it happened, as the fault was intermittent, I tried to see if I could 'make' it happen with the technique at which the switch was operated. The only thing that made it trip was to toggle the switch on/off several times quickly, though I didn't attribute that as the...

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Fair one - i'll check out the old switch first and see if that resolves it before venturing into more convoluted possibilities..

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Okay, some thought here...if I were to introduce a second switch into the equation so we have the existing switch putting power to a junction box, split to one appliance (oven say) then a separate feed from the jct box to a separate switch powering perhaps the hob. So what we have is only one...

advice to paint coloured doors and stairs white

Hi buddy, My experience of doing similar is that if you want to achieve a reasonable quality finish then preparation and patience is the key. There is no short cut to a good quality finish, A good rub down with sandpaper followed by usually at least two undercoats. I have not used the...

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Thanks for your thoughts on this John. I think that I may well swap back to the old switch for a couple of weeks and see what happens. If its not tripping with the old switch then its plain where the fault lies. If it carries on, then further investigation required Thanks again.

    Speaker cone pushed in

Mate, I feel for you having suffered a similar experience! My kids even stuffed toys into my subwoofer! I would be tempted to try using something gentle but sticky (eg tape) to gently try to pull the cones back into shape. Whether or not the speaker will sound the same will remain to be...

Yes indeed, there is a test button..

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Okay, I confused myself! The section covered by RCD (not MCB) all trips when the switch cooker trips! A switch issue or a fault elsewhere? Or...as was suggested to me by a friend... A very sensitive consumer unit? It seems to me that the answer might be just to leave the switch on all...

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Yes, apologies for getting it wrong, it is indeed the MCB that trips, not an RCD. Effectively the consumer unit has a section covered by the MCB and when the cooker trips, so too does everything else in this section.

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Thanks - good idea. I didn't think of that. I've still got the old white plastic switch in the shed, may chuck that on (wont look as nice!) for a while and see if it happens with that. Trial and error I guess, always worth a go! :D

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Hi guys, First post on here, though I've been reading the forum for years. I'm looking for a bit of advice with a frustrating problem. Recently had a new kitchen fitted, including an induction hob and electric single oven. I deliberately selected a 3kw induction hob and a 2.5kw...
